So, the idea behind cloaking is to show one page to users and another to visitors, but what happens if that visitors page doesn't work right? Well, chocolati.com, owned by a local Seattle chocolatier, had just this problem:
Now, thanks to an idiotic SEO company named Addme.com, they're showing useless information. What's worse, today they're featured on the front page of a local Seattle portal site - NWSource.com - and Valentine's Day, surely one of their biggest sales day of the year, is right around the corner.
I can't help but feel bad that they were duped by some scammer/spammer at Addme into this mess. I left a message with a sales girl at their Greenlake location but I highly doubt it will get back to whoever runs the site. Google hasn't dropped them yet, though - hopefully they'll be forgiving.
What's even more sad and wrong is that the list of tiny keywords actually has, on one line by itself, the word "KEYWORD"
I guess addme.com just couldn't manage to think of just one more phrase to stuff in there...
How do companies like this get hired? Its depressing!
I'm guessing the chocolate company found addme, not the other way around. addme with their pr8, (they're doing something right), is probably getting some decent serps for themselves... i wonder if addme realizes that doing a job like that on the chocolate site puts themselves at risk of being banned. Stupid...
Incredible really...Hopefully Chocolati will see the mistake ASAP and dump AddMe.com just as fast.
It is bad to see examples like this and proves web site owners need better understanding of the implication of using such methods.
Im secretly hoping AddMe.com get penalized for this...but I doubt it!
Now the text is just hidden. Under the main dark brown area, after the almost hidden "AddMe.com, Search Engine Submission and SEO"...
Just look at the source...
They also have the note, "Chocolati.com is under going a major face lift." It's not really a site, just a page.
Sorry guys - when I looked this morning, the site had just a white background and the crappy stuffed text - ala the above screenshot.
I see they've got that fixed now - maybe the girl I left a message with was able to pass it through to the right folks.
The keywordstuffing is at the bottom of the page, I doubt that alot of visitors will get distracted by it.
Their info page is very nice.
Man that's just bad
I get distracted because I have a big enough screen to notice it. To me this is just another company which is missing the bigger picture.
I also have to disagree with that the info page is very nice, my eyes didn't find any place to rest. Maybe because I got distracted by the stuffing, I don't know since I didn't measure the movement of my eyes...
Wow, that addme site is a PR8.
There we go again, one more charlatan to add to my list... The very sad part is the disrespect towards the client, seriously, how can they dare do that to someone whose income might be coming mainly from the search engines?
