Check out the Torture a Spammer Game from MarketingSherpa. It's not blog spammers, but rather e-mail spammers, with whom "legitimate" email marketers have a big problem with, apparently. I'm of two minds about the game - I think it's a great idea, but it's poorly executed in my opinion. All you do is click on icons of spam while not clicking on icons of angelic "opt-in" emails - seems like they know their audience.
It's worth seeing, though. I imagine that every site could make a game like this where you foil your customers' natural nemesis and gain, in the end, a way to opt-in to some marketing email list...
"Torture" in the game means having a flying monkey stomp on a mortgage loan email... It's not particularly "tortuous". They'd probably, actually land more links with something truly distasteful and vile, or, as I mentioned, by improving the quality of the game...
Maybe I should contract a Flash game builder for a few thousand to make SEOmoz a white hat v. black hat game...?
Torture is never funny, but this is a neat marketing idea.
Wow... this has the potential to be one of those BUZZ websites that get enormous links in a short amount of time. If they would kick it up a few notches in humor or actually take a whack at the spammers I think that the site would be PR8 at least in no time. Right now it is a 1/2 done effort at marketing.
