Thanks to Matt's nifty little IP Lookup tool, SEOmoz got dugg yesterday. We're still feeling the love today. It's only 9:30am and we've had 2X our average daily traffic already! But... yesterday's traffic is what made me understand folks who say Digg rivals Slashdot. Note the graph:
The first 35 minutes we were on the front page of Digg brought about 3,000 unique visitors, and close to 5,000 in the next hour. Total, the day's traffic skyrocketed to 22,000 uniques, about 20,000 over normal. In comparison, when the beginner's guide got Slashdotted in December, the single highest visitor total for a day was 19,500, and the subsequent day brought another 15,000 or so. We'll check up on the staying power of Digg traffic, but the links coming in so far are quite nice, too.
I am betting that this tool gets over 1000 links in the first month. Who would be willing to bet $100?
Hi,
Can someone explain what this tool does? I cannot find a meaning to what it has to do with dugg site.
Karl
By far one of your shortest posts Rand.
I think we got pretty lucky. When I built the tool sunday night I had absolutely no expectations of getting dugg. I've noticed digg users are more inclined to digg links that are quick, clever, and have a pretty interface.
Getting dugg is not easy. Someone else submitted one of my pages and I got dugg bigg time. So, I thought that it would be easy and have tried to duplicate it with what I thought was killer stuff. Most of the time it fails.
Hey! I was just going to mention that! Well, there's always the follow-up article as well: https://www.14thc.com/more-social-bookmarking.html
Rand - take a look at reddit. It's sending me more traffic than Digg, though I have not made it to Digg's homepage... yet!
BTW - Social bookmarking is SEO. These sites have proprietary search engines and the traffic coming from them is better than all 3 "traditional" search engines combined for me. My traffic for January will almost double that of December thanks to social bookmarking. This kind of response really encourages adding new quality content!
It's a neat tool - congrats on gettin "dugg"
Thanks for the data Rand. It's a brave new world, check out this article on social bookmarking, "https://www.14thc.com/social-bookmarking.html"
