We're rolling out two new features today for our SEOmoz members: the first is a collection of Free SEO Tools for all to use (you just have to have a free seomoz account), the second new feature is an SEO Dashboard for our premium members.
Rather than using a ..how do you say.. "keyboard," to tell you about these features, I recorded a screencast so that I could visually walk you through the dashboard.
P.S. I apologize for the background noise. Our office has very thin walls and there's a bit of an echo.
P.P.S. We're hoping to keep adding to the SEO toolbox to offer a bunch more tools.
A few days ago SEObook updated their tools and I thought it was pretty nifty... but you've just blown Aaron out of the water.
Sorry Aaron - I still like your blog... but I think the new SEOmoz dashboard will generate more hits than the lovechild of Michael Jackson and Elvis
Thanks so much for putting these together, Matt. You're going to need another couple of servers, though - I should probably get my own, as a matter of fact. I'm on SEOmoz.org all day long.
At this point if I had to choose between keeping my cell phone or my SEOmoz Premium Membership. . .well, my girlfriend would stop hearing from me altogether.
I think we're becoming addicts!
Extraordinarily good stuff. Very impressive, and useful.
I want to echo Lorisa on the "thank you" it is clear alot of work went into this. I would comment more but I want to go play with it more.
Even more incentive to become a premium member. Keep up the good work guys and girls! Have an abSEOlutely fabulous week!
I joined SEOmoz 3-4 days ago and really don't know much about SEO at all.
Are those tools suppose to help me get better alexa and pagerank Ranking?
I might just sign up if it will because I could use the traffic.
The tools won't help you get better rankings. Understanding what the tool is doing and learning how to apply that value just might.
I would recommend starting with the articles section.
First go read: Beginner's Guide to Search Engine Optimization
Then read all these: Essential Articles
When you have questions use the search box to look for related posts to read and throughout the entire process start using and understanding the Free tools.
Once you've gotten to a point that you feel advanced, sign up for the Premium Membership to get access to the SEO Q&A and SEO Tips sections - as well as some kick ass premium only articles and tools.
Have a good trip!
Simple but nice tools.
Just a suggestion, it might be better to add nofollow to the links at the strongest pages results and the Who am I linking reports or noindex, nofollow at the results pages before people decide to start spamming. I am not a techie but the results pages seem to be indexable.
You have to be logged into view those pages - so the engines will never spider them (so no need for a nofollow)
You didn't mention this, but I'm guessing you built all these tools using Cake PHP in about 20 minutes, right? Just kidding, it looks like you've worked really hard and the dashboard - especially the browser button - is fantastic.
I noticed that when I click on a main category, all the choices pop up underneath it. Awesome. But then when I choose a specific tool (or article, etc.) the dashboard returns to "This is your premium member dashboard..." I don't know if this is even possible, but it would be great if, when you're using a tool from a specific category, the other choices from that category stay in the dashboard.
Overall, really great. There doesn't seem to be a limit to new ideas at SEOmoz!
None of these tools do super complicated things, but it's a nice place to go to grab information instead of hitting up a bunch of different sites yourself to do it.
It also is an introduction towards their premium tools which provide greater value.
It's addictive. Damn. Way to ruin productivity again, Matt.
I know, I was just playing with the interface click links and going "ohhhh" more link show up.
The Premium member dashboard is officially neat as poo.
Have you thought about creating a tool that lets you "see" how search engines see your web site?
This is pretty simple to accomplish by just sending a URL to lynx and displaying the results.
I think it would be helpful for newer seo's or people that don't have access to lynx.
I don't know if it matters, but there's already a very good one of those out there: https://www.seo-browser.com/
Great work guys!! These are extremely useful. You definitely keep raising the bar and giving people more reasons to be premium members, and even free members...Big thanks go out to Matt and crew for the hard work you've put into these! SEOmoz strikes again!! :)
Since the rank checking tool saves your data, I'd recommend putting up a privacy policy, just so everyone knows where they stand. I don't know what you'd do with my search information if you chose to, and I don't particularly care, but you should probably cover your butts on something like this.
I defintely use the premium tools a lot more now that they are (unobtrusively) in my face :)
Nice one Matt.
Awesome addition to the site, thanks a lot!
Quick note, in using the "IP Location Lookup" on the dashboard I lose my URL & the option to select the other tools. I have to use the back button.
Update: I also just checked with the advanced tools and it does the same thing. Would it be possible to keep the url and toolbox option up top?
Also a quick question about the "Check Outbound Links" feature. Is there any way to know which pages I don't want to be linking too? Is it at all possible to highlight any sites that you shouldn't be linking too, just in case?
Love it, love it, love it.
Great post! - the tools you have provided are extremly useful. The 'Strongest Pages' tool is one of my favourites and allows you to determine which page of your website is the strongest and uses the best content. The 'Find Domain Age' tool also works well to provide you with information about you domain and how old it is. In terms of optimisation, these tools will give you great insight into how well your website is doing.
Great Toos. It is very usefull for all webmasters.

Hi
I am a newbie to SEO !!!
Any hints and tips are welcome!!!
Only now I read the feed and noticed the relative urls. How come bloglines does not have a page at bloglines.com/toolbox? :-)
I just joined Seomoz - yesterday - it seems a great resource.
- Such a vibrant community; The tools seem great too!
I just signed up for a premium membership and I really like the dashboard. Great work on that feature and I look forward to using all of the premium member tools.
Ever since you did this toolbar I've used the tools a huge amount more.
Thanks Matt!
Cool tools. Thanks..
Wow matt - you ran through this like a chipmonk on steroids.
Do you mind sharing which Mac screencast program you are using, I haven't found a good one.
It's called snapz pro and I used it in combination with mousepose 2
Good stuff. Many thanks. Having some problems getting the Firefox buttons to work. They install fine, but don't seem to work all the time. But everything works fine when I am using the dashboard manually.
Christoph
Good stuff! Makes it so much easier to navigate around the various Premium only areas of the site.
thanks!
Very slick tools, you're making it more and more tempting to go Premium. :)
Now see, that's a helluva set of tools. Thanks for these!
I like it! This should save me time. Especially the "enter url" link.
You guys just keep getting better and better. A quick run-through with the IP lookup means I'll be looking at a server of my own pretty soon. Sigh. Thanks for these superb resources. You're making it difficult for me to bother to go anywhere else. :)
Wow. Great job on the usability/design of these tools. They're good at being unobtrusive but always at the ready. Now I just need a few cuppa's in order to catch all the words in the video.
Very well done Matt. I have been very impressed by all of the value that an SEOmoz account has brought to my work. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Great job Matt! Great tools, now easier to access than ever. SEOMoz just keeps getting better and better.
Sweet! Thanks for the button, now I've got one place to go for all those tools instead of 15 bookmarks.
Nice work once again Matt!
Thanks!
My only problem is...
if I remove the dashboard I wont be able to put it back because I still can't update my profile. Nothing I do to it saves
Great value, cool design! First of all the "Enter URL".
How does the strongest pages tool work? The results are pretty weird....... for blogstorm.co.uk
It uses the following query at Google:
inurl:domain site:domain.com - hopefully Google won't break it now that it works, but if you check a site like SEOmoz or Drivl or Yelp, you can see that it lists, virtually in order, the pages with the most PageRank, just as they're listed inside the Webmaster Central console.
Note: You do have to add &filter=0 to the query string, which I think our tool doesn't do (but I'm sure Matt will fix that in a jiffy) :)
Ok, I added &filter=0 to the end of the string
Thanks for your bunch of tools. As i m new in SEO field I found it too infomative for me.

Help!!! I work for a company that blocks all my video content so I can't watch your video in this post. Or any of your videos for that matter. So long whiteboard fridays. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you sell your soul to a big evil corporate giant.
Uh, you could watch them at home...
Yeah, watch them at home. There isn't much I can do about your work blocking youtube.
