Threadwatch has coverage of Matt Cutts' blog dissappearing (screenshot in case GG fixes it) from the Google SERPs thanks to duplication of his site's content by some SEO black hatters. The thread includes commentary from Cutts himself, who notes that he's trying to find the issue (or at least have someone else from Google find it).

What's happening is that duplicate content on another domain is reducing the value of Matt's own content on his pages. The page can still rank for text in the comments section (which had not been duplicated), but is losing out to nefarious copycats (who did this on purpose to illustrate Google's failings). As some at TW point out, it's a very dangerous issue in times of RSS feeds, article syndication and general content swapping. The search engines (not just Google, but all of them), need to get better at recognizing the original publisher.

The new term "Bacon Polenta'd" shall hereafter be used to refer to this type of content theft and rankings.
