Cabs are available at the airport. Cab fare is a flat rate of $35 to the University District plus tip. Cabs may charge extra for additional passengers sharing a cab.
We recommend Seattle S&A Town Car service: 206.459.7903. One-way service to or from SeaTac airport is $40 [$35.00 + $5] tip for one-to four passengers. S&A also offers a Lincoln Navigator for up to 7 passengers for $70 for larger groups. Call S&A at least 24 hours in advance to arrange for a pick up at the airport.
PS. A bumbershoot is an umbrella.
Is someone from the Netherlands going? In that case can I ride with you to Seattle, or if you like just drive with me.... Because this drive will take about 14 days when we go via Seberia-Alaska... and a little conversation about SEO would be nice and let feel the trip shorter...
You're planning on driving through Europe and up through Russia, across the Bearing Strait and then down through Alaska and British Columbia to go to the seminar in Seattle?
I wikied bumbershoot and found the Seattle music festival!
Why is it on the day i depart Seattle :|
That first day line-up featuring Crowded House, Gymclass Heroes and Rodrigo & Gabriela is orgasmic! Lupe, Wu-Tang, John Legend and Joss Stone on Monday! Aaargh.I wonder if I can extend my stay...
The Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival is pretty rad and they've got a great lineup this year. You might want to think about hanging out for an extra day or two to see it.
But sadly, I don't think there's any music festivals going on during the weekend prior to the seminar.
I totally agree with the Il Terrazzo Carmine suggestion, here's my review of them. One of my favourites in a city of great restaurants.
Just a heads up, you should post a link to this blog post form the seminar page as well.
Georgetown here I come! Yeah, so it's going the wrong direction, but I can't help myself. Umbrella? If you're a diehard you'll wear shorts to evoke the Indian Summers.
Thanks for the bumbershoot advice... Will there be a place for our rubbers and slickers? It's been awhile since I've been to Seattle and need to know, after reading Rand's tips about appropriate garb at SEO gatherings, did I waste money having my finest flannel shirts cleaned and pressed? Should I stop looking for my paisley doux rag? With all the cyclists... has spandex become the new flannel? Just wanna blend, you know. I could wear both I suppose-- blend right in that way.
Great, I am booked! I haven't been to Seattle since '96. I am looking forward to the seminar and networking. I will be in Sunday eve and look forward to meeting some fellow SEOs. I plan to hit the bar in the hotel. Cheers!
Reservation made :-). Please make sure the sun will be shining as I do not really like rain that much.
Christoph
Reservations made! Thanks for the heads up. I was going to rent a car at the airport, is that a bad idea? I don't know about seattle drivers, but I can hold my own in NY and NJ, so I figured I could get by.
I'm not getting in until Sunday since the company is footing the bill, but that should give me all afternoon for the whirlwind tour. Any suggestions on can't miss sights?
Anyone putting anthing together for Sunday evening? Can't wait!
Just watch out for the cyclists. They're eeeeverywhere. Um, other than that, if you can handle NY, this will seem like rural Nebraska.
Just reading about partying with Rand, hotel reservations, taxi rides, and umbrellas, makes me depressed about not being able to attend.
Me and the wifey are coming in on Friday...she's never been.
Is the Music Experience worth going to?
Restaurant / bar recommendations in the area would be nice also.
Anyone staying there over the weekend should meet at the wine bar at 6:00...we can go to dinner and out afterwards.
I'll be there.
There are a number of fun places in the neighborhood of the EMP.
If you want to take your wife someplace nice I recommend:
Lola, Etta, or Il Terrazzo Carmine.
If you are meeting up with people I recommend:
Buckley's, Moxie, or the Spectator
Cool. Thanks for the suggestions. On the list.
The EMP is usually not worth it, though supposedly the Sci-Fi museum is awesome, and they currently have costumes from Star Trek, Battlestar Galactic, Indiana Jones (not sure how that's Sci-Fi), among others. I'd definitely take her to the Pike Place Market, which will be chilly in October, but free of tourists. The Seattle Art Museum can also be a fun little trip, as well as the Frye Art Gallery, and the new Sculpture Museum, which you'd head to more for the view than anything else.
I thought it looked a little "less than impressive".
Knew about Pike's Market, but not the museums
Thanks MG!
Good times....Who wants to get smashed Sunday night?
Gillian said "bumpershoot"
Well now, Pat: so did you!
They aren't umbrellas where I am from!
Are you coming Pat? We should go to Umi again.
Thanks for the info. We already booked for a different hotel downtown but we're going to be coming in Friday and spending the weekend! I haven't been in Seattle since I saw Nolan Ryan pitch a one-hitter against the Mariners... that was a loooooooooong time ago. What are some cool things to do in Seattle before the seminar?
