As some folks had already guessed, I was the MySuperProposal guy. Tonight, I proposed to Mystery Guest on her favorite show, Veronica Mars. The video is at iFilm - the response should be up very soon (but here's a spoiler, she said YES!)

Great story, I don't know you, but I'm really glad you were able to pull that off and I really hope you are both very happy together. Just watching the video gave me the largest smile. I submitted this story to Netscape ( link ) the previous story from SEOmoz I submitted on blog managers made the homepage (I have lots of friends and it was a good article.) I followed the MySuperProposal story with some interest because it seemed to be an internet marketing story. We should have guessed the "JP" was actually an accomplished marketer based on the volume of posts and his ability to move the story along as well as articulate what Joe was trying to accomplish.

i spent a good hour that night trying to look for 'JP' footprints around the web. looked up whois, checked ips, backlinks, started reading press and just gave up. i did think the voice sounded familiar though...'JP' sounded very geniune on the air, and i was probabyl one of the few that actually believed 'JP's' story.
my favorite part was how tom kept telling you that he didn't know if you were 'inserting spyware' or 'inserting adware' onto peoples computers. he said you were 'tracking the websites people visit' etc. and/or inserting viruses/trojan horses onto people's computers..... Haaaaaaa. classic.
can't wait to listen to the show tonite. you took the roasting very well man. i'm sure they'll have lots of nice things to say again :D

JP #1 is a really good friend of mine, and I was one of the first 1 or 2 people that he told his Super Bowl proposal idea to. I thought he was nuts. I never thought it'd get the traction that it did.
I couldn't be happier that it has turned out the way that it has. $10k + for a children's hospital, a proposal that you and your love will never forget, and happiness for the rest of us who may not know you but are just all around glad to see your true love.

Not only was your proposal a great idea, and executed very very well, but it raised your profile even higher. I knew of SEOmoz, but didn't consider it a must read. Your proposal brought me back and made me realize what I was missing. I doubt that was your intention, but I can't imagine that it will be anything but a positive for your company.
I am glad that I am already married. That kind of effort and planning will put quite a bit of pressure on the guys who are in long term relationships but aren't yet engaged.

So I turned on the radio for my commute home, and there was Geraldine talking away to the hosts all on her own. She did fine, although it sounded like she was quite justifiably getting tired of the behavior of the hosts by the end of the interview. Apparently I'd just missed Rand who they'd kicked off the show for saying "whatnot".
Congrats guys! So I found out about this the next day on CNN! Some reporter said, "a Tennessee man named Rand Fishkin..." and then there you were, CNN page 1. I told my girlfriend who you were, and she responded, "you know, we've been living together for over a year now...".

Rand and I were both working to keep the TiVo remote out of Geraldine's reach, but that was a losing battle. As such, Rand made a valiant effort to fast forward as much as possible to keep us on live TV.
If you watch the second video, you'll see Geraldine try to fast forward (luckily there was only about 10 seconds of recording lead).
