Choice is a great thing, even when it comes down to the question of being able to put bacon on your cheeseburger. SEOmoz prides itself in giving its members choice, even when it comes down to the little things like the swag. But who doesn't like free swag, right? I’ll be the first person to admit jumping wildly at any free booth swag. I don't care if it's a Comcast branded chip-clip... I want it. Cheetos branded router? I’ll take three. But being a designer, I do have a soft spot in my heart when it comes to stickers & I will proudly come back twice and “borrow” a couple more from a booth... “I swear I’ll give them back later when I see you again.” So when Scott told me that mozPal Loren Baker and the folks over at PsPrint offered to print us up some sweet, custom stickers, I was all about it. I eagerly spent a little time the other day and designed a cornucopia (or maybe a horn-o-plenty if you will) amount of stickers for you Mozzers.
Herein lies the problem. I designed about 12 different stickers and we can't decide which one of them to use - so many choices and too many opinions. But being a designer, I love opinions and who better to choose the swag-tastic SEOmoz super sticker than the people who will get them in the end (Unless I "borrow" them all, hah). It’s all about choice, and we pride ourselves in giving Mozzers choice (even when it comes to 5 cent stickers). Where are you going to stick your sticker if it ends up winning? We’ll send the design off to PsPrint for a limited edition run as soon as we have a winner that emerges from the dust of this bare knuckle sticker fist fight!

I'll probably be flamed for this but I've always considered the SEOmoz logo to be a bit lame - I don't like the colours and it looks to me like it wasn't created by a designer but by an engineer trying to be a designer.
IMO the stickers are all flat and dull. They could use some pop!
Was it designed on a spirograph or is that just a rumour?
(apologies to the designers, I couldn't have done better)
Thumbs up for the spirograph comment. Well, made me laugh anyway.
Touché
. . . says the poorly cropped highlighter pink Ms. Pacman ripoff, lol.
Edit: Awe 'cmon, where's the fun in that? Changing your avatar post joke is bad form ;-)
Edit #2: Thanks for playing along!
In my defence it's my favicon .. but the logo it comes from is pretty rubbish .. I'm not a designer I just pretend to be one for some of my clients ;0)
Well it's a new kind of lame now, its Lame 2.0 with reflections and eroded font and blurs and everything.
I think perhaps Ms.Pacman's ugly sister though ..
[old avatar: from logo]
I will defend the pink though - it is a huge eye-hook.
Edit 3: Thanks for the game of comment tennis!
Haha, ya I've never been a fan of the logo either, but I quickly recognize it from anywhere on the web.
Now I finally realized what the SEOmo logo looks like thanks to these mockups - the BP logo (beside the first iteration in this post that does look like the Obama presidency logo).
Well in any case, I'd go for #2 if nothing else was available.
Can I get #2 as a lapel badge on a gray hoodie?
All three are lovely images, but you have to go with #3 if you want anyone to know what your company is.
Number 1 looks the best IMHO and is the one I voted for but no 3 has the brand name on which makes it slightly better I think.... Any chance of adding the brand name onto the first one?
I gave the post a thumbs down. There needs to be a "none of the above" option in the poll.
I vote for a 4th option... SEOmoz should go to 99designs or logoworks for a new logo.
I agree. I don't like any of them.
Good designs but not the spirit of moz.
Sticker #2 looks like the old Seattle Sonics logo.
I totally agree. I immediately saw (1) Obama and (2) SuperSonics.
#1 Is reminiscent of the Obama campaign logo...and the new Pepsi logo, and the Bank of America logo :)
#1 SEObama
Obama ran the best Marketing campaign I think I have ever seen...he has alot of people lobbyists he has to pay off.
Not trying to get political but I am very curious how the british folk on here feel about Obama Returning the Bust of Churchill and the 25 DVD set he gave to the PM.
I found it really disrespectful...
Watch out, the White House might pull something like this.
Coffee, rainy days, and SEOMoz are the things that make me think of Seattle.
...and Frasier Crane.
I fully agree...it made me sad and angry at the same time...So i voted for it, because someone needs to honour (<Canadian spelling) that logo....plus its a great opportunity for SEOmoz to change their colours (<again) to Green and Gold
Really? PsPrint? Okay, so I am biased ... but if you ever want other printing recommendations let me know. ;)
Always open to recommendation's, any more free stickers would be awesome!
OMG, a thumbs down for that?? I was kidding people! I didn't link to anyone and am a (fairly) well respected memeber of this community. Oh well, guess I should have added "joking" huh?
I submitted a YOUmoz post on this very subject about a week and a half ago . . . hopefully it will get published and we can all discuss the proper usage and meaning of the thumb up/down.
Note: This comment and the yet to be published YOUmoz post were both created with equal parts sarcasm and seriousness. Actually caring about moz points is silly (even though they mean so much to us) AND some people have no idea how to use thumbs properly.
all are bullshit. 1st one is a little bit normal, but it is f*$ng plagiat.
All really nicely designed but I can't help thinking:
1) 2 of the 3 don't even have the SEOmoz name on them.
and
2) None have the actual web address for SEOmoz or say anything of the services SEOmoz provide.
It's worth remembering that people can be stupid and don't want to think unless they really have to.
For the 3rd design it might be better to make it "SEOmoz.org" repeating and on the other 2 maybe try to incorporate this somewhere near the bottom?
Otherwise, very slick design style as always!
ooooo I want a sticker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Number two is great!
gotta go with the seattle skyline
Oh, it's Seattle! I did wonder about why that skyline, makes sense now (forgive ignorance, am Londoner, never been to Seattle or watched that apparently awful Tom Hanks film). Although reckon my new found knowledge of the Space Needle (thanks Wikipedia) will come in handy at the next pub quiz.
Which sticker ended up winning?
I have to agree with the other commentators, #1 looks like a bad rip-off of the Obama logo. Instead of showing half of your dresden-plate quilt square logo, can't you show the whole thing and have the words over it or something? When you divide it in half it looks like a sunburst instead of the quilt look that it usually has.
Some of this was already said by others but...
#1 is too similar to Obama/Pepsi/Bank of America. It also looks like a Farmer's Union logo (cool, but not SEO related)
#2 is cool but is SEOmoz about Seattle or just located there? My point is, think globally. Still, my top choice.
#3 a little too generic for my taste but at least is says SEOmoz.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't recognize the SEOmoz logo by itself (which does resemble the BP logo) In fact, I kind of always thought the Blog's Logo (transmitter globe) was the site's logo since I usually read the blog and it's more prominent.
I didn't even realise what the SEOmoz logo was despite seeing it at the top of posts every day. Hence choosing number 3 as it's got the brand written on it.
There's nothing like simple and obvious marketing messages - if it doesn't smack you in the face then what's the point (just to clarify i'm talking about marketing here).
Come on #3!!!
The reason I didn't vote for 1 or 2 is because nowhere on the sticker is SEOmoz.
#1 would have been better if you put SEOmoz in place of the middle purplish stripe.
I like the third one..
good job on the designs
I think it's safe to say that #2 is winning. Yay!
I would vote for number 1. But I think the colours need switching as its messing with the brand a bit too much for my liking.
I don't know if you have any brand guidelines in place, but I don't think I have ever seen the 'MozFlower' in blue - its always in that burgundy-ish colour.
I also think it should have the brand name on it somewhere, especially if you're going to switch the colours around then it may not be recognisable as SEOmoz
Dif the 2nd one. Sticker#1 looks like an Obama rip off and sticker #3...well not that much
I like the 1st and 2nd Logo both... but from these two I will select 2nd Sticker.
Numero dos. Deffo needs a name and preferably a web home though...
Perhaps move up the logo behind the skyline, so you get more room to put some rounded text with SEOmoz.org at the bottom. Or shift the Moz logo a tad so it shows six corners, enough to stick the letters S-E-O-m-o-z in them.
I am going with #3 ... the other 2 look like nock offs of others.
'...I am going with #3 ... the other 2 look like nock offs of others...'
There is many an example of this in many logo's :)
