We’re stoked to announce Moz Academy!
Have you ever wanted a resource to learn inbound marketing or a place your team can reference marketing best practices? Well, we hope you do a backflip over Moz Academy. If you have a Moz Subscription, check it out now!
Subscription-based content
At Moz we produce a wealth of free content in the blog, our guides, Q&A, and pretty much everywhere on the site. We want to do something special for Moz subscribers by transforming our free content and reinventing it for Moz Academy. You could probably scour the Moz Blog and other websites to obtain the information in Moz Academy, but we think having it easily digestible and all in one place is a huge win for Moz subscribers. Moz is excited to add the simplicity and power of Moz Academy to the list of Moz subscription benefits.
Why create an inbound marketing school?
Moz is extremely passionate about educating our community. In fact, our entire business started as a blog where people could learn about SEO. Moz Academy gives subscribers the power to be better marketers, which will enable them to use our products in more depth and with greater confidence. We want to provide a hub of marketing knowledge that will create a stronger community where people can teach each other while using the Academy as a frame of reference. One could say that Moz Academy is the Mr. Miyagi of inbound marketing. The key to this project is empowering you to kick even more butt than you already do!
We hope Moz Academy turns into the one-stop-shop for inbound knowledge for Moz subscribers. Everyone on the team is committed to continually refreshing content and adding new lessons. Again, we really want this to be the easiest and most comprehensive place to learn internet marketing on the web.
Furthermore, we’ve designed each lesson with empathy in mind; they will be easily digestible and considerate of your time. That means you can drop in whenever you like and have comfortable breakpoints if you’re brain is exploding with inbound marketing knowledge.
Wait, how do I use Moz Academy?
Moz Academy is easy to use! Check out these six simple steps:
Step 1: Log into your Moz account.
Step 2: Go to moz.com/academy.
Step 3: Look through the lessons.
Step 4: Click a lesson you find interesting.
Step 5: Enjoy a video and/or read the lesson below it!
Step 6: Crane kick.
What lessons do you have right now?
We're starting with the following lessons:
- Inbound Marketing
- SEO
- Link Building
- Social Media
- Content Marketing
We plan to add a lot more! Look for lessons on local SEO, community management, video marketing, email marketing and web analytics. Yup, it's going to be pretty sweet!
Well, Moz, what's next for Moz Academy?
The future of Moz Academy really depends on how everyone uses it. In the next few months, we want to create a good foundation for beginners and subsequently build up to intermediate-level content. Eventually, we'd like to have sections for beginners lessons, intermediate lessons, and advanced lessons. Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ll be releasing a lot of new stuff! Some of our longer-term goals for Moz Academy are to have interactive quizzes and some sort of gamification. Yes, we know you'd like to track your progress and unlock achievements. That way you can show off how awesome you are at Moz Academy!
Eventually, we want Moz Academy to look more like Treehouse and Code School’s online learning platforms. We have a long way to go, but are excited about the journey to get there. With your help and feedback, we can make Moz Academy something awesome. Thanks in advance, and enjoy!
Goes great with the Beginners Guide, like peanut butter and jelly! Very helpful for training interns, thanks!
They go together like peas and carrots
WoW! Another great learning resource is here.
Thanks so much!!
Thanks Kumail! Feel free to give us some feedback if you want.
Great Source for SEO learning.....if you want more..here's another good one from distilled SEO university....https://www.distilled.net/training/
The best of the best one for SEO industry update is: https://seo.alltop.com/......that's my favorite.
Was going to post this as well, handy little site. I'm sure Moz Academy will be on par, if not better. :)
I said it on Twitter, I'll say it again here: you guys are hitting it out of the ballpark these days. I'm looking forward to working through these modules, and seeing what else you'll be teaching in coming months!
Thanks a lot! It means the world to us. :)
A great addition to the Moz membership. I just have one suggestion:
How about adding a note "Watched" or graying the video thumbnail when I watch a video like on YouTube so I can tell which videos I already watched when I come back later or I can tell if you added new videos.
Awesome idea. We definitely have that slated as a future feature, along with a table of contents of some sorts.
Preparing to comment I always brace myself for an onslaught - a dissenting voice - a thumbs down collector. I find most of the comments sections to be more pep-rally than debate, more cult than collaboration, more brainwash than brainstorm. See Rand's comments re adding value, watch the vid again if necessary -> (Rand is here)
My first thought was 'this smells like VC'. I'm preparing for (more) membership levels, paid access to lessons, elite access. I can already see the seeds within the comments (I can't access it - Ah, you need to be a pro-member)
Thumbs down shield at the ready.
*UNLEASH THE THUMBS DOWN ARMY!* :) I appreciate you bringing that up. I do think its nice to have people get excited about something new, but I get what you're saying. My hope is that everyone who comments engages the content then goes over to the Q&A post and gives us vicious feedback and great lesson ideas.
So about my numbness to acronyms, but do you mean 'venture capitalist' when you say vc?
Hi Nick. Yes, venture capitalist was the acronym of choice there. It wasn't meant to suggest that your post in particular attracted non-productive comments.
Awesome news, Nick!
I remember Rand talking about a similar exam/ certification that Google has for AdWords but for an SEO/ inbound marketing arena in one of his yearly prediction posts. With the Moz Academy, I really see Moz taking the lead with this and having the first official SEO certification program that is highly regarded and accepted by recruiters and employers in the digital marketing space.
I'll be diving into these lessons shortly. At first glance, it's looking VERY cool.
Thanks Steven!
That's the hope. Once we get some data on how people use it and feedback around what people would like to see we can really start pushing towards a certification. When you check out the lessons please send us your feedback here! We also like suggestions for content.
That's great to hear! Thanks
Feel more than a little silly for being so bummed about the demise of Private Q&A now. This. Looks. Awesome.
Wow, did not see that coming. And I'm happy to hear that you will have beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, because my first thought was that many if not most of the pro users are advanced or at least intermediate. Should have known you had it covered!
even it's really interesting. i'm lack on english. still learning phase.
Congrats on MozAcademy... excited to get all the learning at one place.
@Nick: It seems you are a huge fan of Karate Kid. :)
wax on... wax off
Haha, yes I am! Thanks for reading!
This is an awesome addition to Moz! Whenever someone asks me how they can learn SEO, I always send them to the Beginner's Guide; now there is even more for them!
Thanks Moz I look forward to doing some learning this weekend!
Great idea and definitely adds value to subscription. Cant's wait to see this project evolve into something more like Treehouse etc.
It will be super hit. But it is only for subscribers........ :(
Another reason to subscribe!
Looks Nice Nick and Moz team, do put some free videos too! also try to make the academy courses interactive if possible (like CodeAcademy.com), that often improves retention.
We have free videos every Friday! :)
Great learning and teaching resource to go along with the Beginners Guide!
This is a really great idea - thanks Moz!
Awesome resource! Always good to freshen up and will almost certainly learn something new. Good job Moz!
Wow! Great job continuing to increase the value of a moz membership. I'm especially looking forward to the more advanced videos in the future.
So are we! :)
Awesome news, congrats on the launch! Excited to see where it goes :)
Thanks Alyce. Tell everyone at Wistia thanks too. I believe a gent named Chris Savage may or may not have given Rand a strong endorsement for an educational "learning center."
:D
Looks great. Will go through it. Thanks alot Moz :)
Got the email, super excited, will get the popcorn in and have a field day :D
Just what I was waiting for! This will be a great resource to give to other team members (and myself) ;-).
Awesome glad to hear!
After returning from MozCon, my membership grows in value again! Thanks Moz!
The most greatest is that there is RAND everywhere. Feels great that he will taught us more than what we are learning from him now. Congrats!!!
We actually cloned him for the project. Amazing feat of science I'd say! :)
This is a great resource your team is creating.
Oh that's Great!! I've seen much development this year for MOZ!!!!!
Great work guys. It sounds like you guys have a great starting point. The internet marketing community needs a resource like this and it seems like you guys are about to build it. Again, great work!
While I'm not a Pro right now, I will consider checking this out in the future. I certainly could use some serious training!! I just need to find some time.
Awesome!!!! ...............Big thanks for this
That what all folks need...another useful resources to learn SEO. I am gonna join this right now...
Great Post!! Really has something to learn. The post has made me engaged for some time. Best addition by moz this time. Thanks for sharing!!
How about adding a PPC section?
One of the reasons SEOMoz rebranded itself was to include more than just seo. I now see social media tools, and content creation, but I dont see anything related to ppc.
"Must be take a worm for a walk week!"
Also, I think this is a cool idea. My team uses Lynda.com for a lot of stuff, but some of it is a little more distantly related than I'd like. I'm pleased that they'll have access to more inbound marketing specific material. We've already started discussing adding the Moz Academy stuff into our "New Hire Training" packet for my team. I think it will probably add a level of consistency to the training that we probably aren't achieving right now with purely the human-training element.
This is a great idea...thank you! Moz is definitely a leader in this industry.
Great knowledge... finally i learned something interesting
Great. I tried to watch onde of the videos but I can´t go thru. I am logged in but is not working :(
Hi! Like Nick mentioned in the post, this is for subscribers (Pro members) at Moz, which is why you can't access it.
Thanks Keri
Really looking forward to the one/s on analytics :-) great idea moz Team :-)
Hi
Good move. This is great and your platform is improving everyday too so that's great.
And Yes I am all for a certification program. I have a couple of SEO and SEM certs but somehow it feels like MOZ should have done this a long time ago. Anyway, please let us know when that happens (hopefully sooner :) )
Once again Moz goes out of its way to help the public! Looking forward to learning more.
Please add PPC at your lessons list. It's also a part of Search Engine Marketing and One of my favourite subject.
Thank You!
Yousuf
Excellent! Thanks!
Any plans to cover advanced topics in the future?
Absolutely. Unfortunately, for us video folks at Moz we have a list of 70 topics to shoot! 70... :P That's a lot of harddrive space.
Liking the new content to play with. At risk of sounding lazy, any chance it could be added something in the Moz site navigation. Maybe as a drop down under Learn?
Just been and had a gander at the new Moz Academy and spruced up on a few videos. It's very nice to have a resource like this available and to hand...
Are there any plans to have a dedicated section (non blog) for Whiteboard Fridays video within the academy? I know they are not lessons per say, but they are still relevant tips and tricks and having a nice little location within the academy just dedicated to them would be cool.
That's a good idea. We have some related content on the sidebars, but nothing exclusively showing off related WBFs. I will look into it. Thanks!
Great addition thats for sure - but now i'd like to have some popcorn :)
Looks great !
Wow, really a great news for all Moz lovers
Awesome work Mozpeeps.
We've been working on a "curriculum" for our incumbent interns. This is going to be a great addition. Beep beep.
I love incumbent interns as a title. :)
Thanks for sharing, Good source to read on...
I liked the Moz Academy very much.It will be much appreciated if you had add in their some of the following tutorials or Videos.
1.)Google Web Master Tool
2.)Google Adwords
3.)Google Penguin and Panda
Thanks
Wow. This is just great. Seomoz has always been a great learning resource.
In the future would mozcademy produce independent content from whiteboard fridays? If so can we have an RSS option to stay updated? Great work Guys!
Awesome idea about the RSS feed! The content in Moz Academy isn't Whiteboard Friday, because its never been offered on the blog as WBF. I can see how one would get confused because its done all in front of a Whiteboard. In the future we want to create more engaging videos and move away from the whiteboard if time permits. :)
Let's get It started.
Another great tool provided to us by Moz. I can’t wait to begin using Moz academy.
Good work, guys!
One thing I'm interested to know is this: Moz is partnered with Distilled, who offer DistilledU. I can see immediately that what both of you offer is different in terms of how you present and structure the lessons (e.g. you guys use videos, they use interactive lessons) - are you hoping that people will use both platforms or are we looking at a potential future merger here...? ;-)
My personal hope is that people use whatever they think helps them the most. DistilledU is quite a bit different than Moz Academy, but more extensive and in-depth. Moz Academy will soon start to incorporate more use cases for our tools and look like an addendum to our products. We also feel that general inbound/seo/content marketing is a large focus too, but only to get people in a place that they can use Moz's tools with depth and confidence.
Of course, depending on the feedback we get it could turn into something completely different.
Hope this helps!
