I stumbled onto (yes, literally with the StumbleUpon toolbar) Blogburst today and was relatively impressed with their content partners. The idea is that you submit your blog and the content (if accepted) gets fed to large publishers like the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News (and possibly others). I've signed up SEOmoz to give it a spin.
Does anyone have experience with this or other, similiar networks? Do you think the future involves major publishers leveraging blog content on their sites?
Oh, and, why, pray tell, is the Ladder Project one of their featured blogs? It's not terrible, but it looks like a list of newbie tips you'd find at an SEO forum, with little additional value (and taking doesn't have an "e" just for reference). Maybe I just read a few bad posts.
I setup an account today for blogbust and they have let me in.
Thanks for motivating me Rand to check this out. Now the question is, why did the let me in? :)
Seems like you have allot of news related post. That could be it.
What's the sin with advertisements? Gotta pay the rent and the staff somehow!
Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I can see your perspective on my site. After thinking about it, I have to go back to a thought I had earlier. One major flaw that my site has now is that it does not give a user visiting any idea of its purpose. That will change when I am done with the new design. As far as Blogburst, I don't think they choose my site over yours based on content. If anything, it may have to do with advertising and purpose. They have strick guidelines that I am willing to sacrifice to, like not having advertisements. So I feel it will benefit me greater now, since my traffic is low. And I am not sure the site would have contributed much to yours since you seem to have a large or moving quickly in that direction at least, subscriber hold. I can say that working for a "500" company, it's easier than a smaller firm, as far as driving traffic. The 500's tend to have heavy budgets so you can always "pay" your way in :) Smaller than 500's I think have a greater challenge in comparison because of budgets. But anyways, that being said, You probably have greater knowledge of SEO, because I know I spend a bit of time driving traffic in cross media and focusing more on converting our visitors to customers. And judging by your content on this site, and your link bait :P I know I will definitely enjoy your posts. Thanks so much.
John - No offense intended, the content just wasn't up my alley (dense with grammatical and spelling errors too).
Great to see you come over here, though. I personally have not done any work with the Fortune 500s, so it would be interesting to hear your perspective on that in the blog.
As for BlogBurst - they just sent over a "not interested" canned response, so clearly the folks over there like your work better than mine. Hope there's no offense taken - it was not intended to arouse your ire.
Wow, that’s kind of harsh randfish. BlogBurst had not officially launched with its publishers the time of this email. They featured my site [theladderproject] with some others which I believe are on rotation. Maybe if you where signed up with them a while ago, it would have been you over my site, who knows. But to defend my site, theladderproject is a blog that is documenting all steps it is taking to try to drive traffic and produce an income from advertising. The site is not aimed at SEO, but it does feature it. It is documenting every step that a typical blogger would take (good and bad). And you have to take baby steps before you can walk, It is covering the easy stuff. Also, keep in mind It's a brand new site with little post. Now, I have been successfully doing online marketing for about 7 years for Fortune 500 companies and do know my stuff, even if what's being posted is considered "newbie" stuff.
Now that being said, I do respect your opinion and would ask you, what can I do to make it better (knowing the goal of the site). The site's design is almost done, and the current design, is a default template. But as far as anything else goes what do you suggest? Oh yeh, thanks for least posting a link to it, even if you did insult it.
What a piece of crap! Based on your post it's evident you're nothing but a small-timer.
That just gives the big boys access to publishing your stuff without the fear of legal action. I have heard many talk about it but nobody has showed any results. Since you are "Rand Fishkin" the SEO guy maybe they will come.
Keep us posted.
