Whoa. Ever have one of those times where your expectations are completely blown out of the water? Well that's what happened during this year's nomination for a MozCation.
Wait, wait, wait, before I get too far ahead of myself, I should explain what it is I'm talking about. Last month, we invited people from around the world to nominate their city for an SEOmoz Meetup.
Once again, we were completely blown away by the way local communities were able to come together so quickly and show us how excited they were for us to come. Some people built and designed websites and Twitter accounts, others created videos or blog posts, and a couple even made infographics.
You've all proven to us once again that our community rocks and that we need to work hard to keep up with all of you! I know, I know you want me to quit blabbing so you can see which cities we picked this year. Please know that it was a really tough decision, and we were overwhelmed by the amazing content created. Now, let's get down to business!
And The Winners Are...
Watch the video with Rand below to find out which cities we'll be visiting for a MozCation this year. :)
Note: Please note, that not all the cities nominated were listed in the video. We just took a quick sampling of the cities submitted and listed them.
Yay! Ok so I won't give it away, I want you to watch the video. :) But congratulations to the cities we'll be visiting!
All The 2012 Nominations
Please be sure to check out all the amazing nominations we had this year. We only gave folks two weeks to put something together, and as you can see, the nominations were absolutely amazing! A huge thank you to all the cities who participated!

I just wanted to send another big thank you to everyone who participated in MozCation. We look forward to the upcoming Meetups, and we really hope that everyone who participated this year will try again next year! Also, every time we do this, we get to find out where all our community is. It helps us to know where we might want to visit in the future for other types of events as well.
We hope to see you all soon, and please if you weren't chosen this time, we'll be holding more events next year! <3
Very awesome. I'm glad you are coming to Milwaukee... https://milwaukeemozcation.com However, Jerusalem would have been wild too! Scott
Portsmouth? SAWEEEEEETTTT!!!
(Used to live there, ok well 2 towns north - miss it fondly)
In all seriousness, really glad it was chosen. The people are wonderful and there is a great little tech scene happening there. They will definitely appreciate a visit from Moz.
Oh BTW and if you go, go here (no affiliation) ---> https://popoversonthesquare.com/ one of the MANY amazing restaurants, coffee shops, music venues etc on the Seacoast!!
There is no Chandgarh, India. We are missed this time. Hopefully will get next time in India. :)
I have got to say that I am most thankful that Cape Town, South Africa was a winner. There is so much unique and great here - Scenery, parties, drinks, beer, startup incubators, people, short and long hikes, Old Biscuit Mill NeighbourGoods farmer market... Well we have already won so no need to carry on as the Mozzers will experience it themselves!
Hi - Miriam from illuminea here, the company that nominated Jerusalem for Mozcation 2012. We're so disappointed you didn't choose Jerusalem - as Scott said above, it would have been wild. Or at least different.
Well, we'll try again next year. In the meantime, enjoy your Mozcations, and if you ever decide to pop by Jerusalem, let us know and we'll try to show you a good time.
Next Year in Jerusalem :)
Hi Miriam! I'm so sorry I got the nomination wrong, I even sent Gab an email about it. I made sure to email all the nominees before putting up the blog post. I'm so sorry I got this one wrong. :( I'll update the post to show you as the right person!
We were definitely interested in Jerusalem, and I'd highly encourage you to give it another shot next year!
Thanks :)
Jen
Congratulations to the winning team :) You guys truly deserve it . A special thanks to the SEOMOZ team for making an effort to appreciate the hard word put up by all the nominations by different cities. Glad to see my hard work "mozcation Chandigarh" displayed on this blog . RESPECT .
Cheers .
Shikha Your hard work and efforts, are highly appreciable. Keep it up!
Guys you don't understand the excitement over the news that you're coming to Cape Town :):):)
Really great efforts by SEOmoz and i want to congrats to winners of this event. These kind of events gives new directions to coming professionals. Everyone would like to participate in that kind of events. And hope it will come next time in India because we are so excited for this and want to be the part of this great organization and it's events.
Thanks again for doing great job and we like to be with you SEOmoz.
Great News for Cape Town, Going to be a great event.... Well done to everyone who helped us to make this possible! Rand... it's a long flight but well worth it ...
Moz-l tov to all the winners - those were some fantastic presentations (wittier than Dr. Pete's tweets!).
And may we all meet in Jerusalem in 2013!
That was soo close... I wish Rand could just stop to Karachi instead of going a number down and circling CapeTown! but as Moosahemani said "next time in 2013 it would be us!" :) Congrats a million to winners and Have a Nice trip mozzers ! ^-^
Although I am a bit sad not get my city get selected but Happy to get at least my city’s name on the whiteboard this time… so the only lesson cum challenge I took from the results is that next time in 2013 I t should be us! :)
Thanks to Rand, Jen and the whole SEOmoz team! And Congrats to all the winners! :)
Well this gives me an excuse to go back to Milwalkee. Fun city. Haven't been there in a while. Make sure you guys give Lakefront Brewery a visit while you're there!
kudos to the winner; they deserved to win because of their outstanding nominations.
Obviously, i am sad i was not able to repeat the big success of last year, when Barcelona gained a spot in the Roger worldwide tour
But, as we say, from a failure you can learn many things, so - dear Moz - be aware, because I am already planning the nomination for 2013, one which will be open for all the European Mozzers to join: because i know you all want to spend some amazing days in Valencia, doing networking while eating a good paella and drinki.g iced sangria in front of the sea and, why not?, taking advantage of the most creative outreach tactic evar: the link tonic :)
Portsmouth, NH is a really nice small town and a great location for a Moz event.
I guess I'll have no excuse not to come along.
@SEOmoz, we can't thank you enough for choosing Milwaukee as your first Mozcation destination - the entire community here is stoked, and we're looking forward to putting together a great time with you.
A huge shout out to all the other nominations that were submitted - you all did a fantastic job! We can't wait to see the noms for next year and who gets chosen, it's going to be great.
And lastly, a massive thanks to all those in the Milwaukee and surrounding areas (a.k.a. - Wisconsin, Illinois, etc.) that submitted your nomination for Milwaukee. We greatly appreciate your support and enthusiasm for this. You guys ROCK!
Can't wait to get this Milwaukee Mozcation planned out!
Cheers
Kyle - Regal Creative
What a great excuse to visit my college town, Milwaukee! Have some custard for me, Mozzers!
Next time, we'll have to round up the Vegas community to get you here.
Hell yeah! Cape Town! Now I will know when to schedule my holiday home :)
Looking forward to seeing Roger's photos from this https://www.apexpredators.com/
You guys will have a blast!
Stephen
Great call on cape town. Awesome infographic and cool video presentation. Love your work.
I'd love to go to the Milwaukee one. Any details yet?
Rand, you are the best... you are going to love South Africa. Some things to note:
Enjoy the flight. Can't wait to see you all
My opinions are totally biased: As a member of the Milwaukee community, it's great to see "smaller" markets get recognition. We oftentimes get passed up for bigger DMAs, less because of what we offer and more because of quantity of participants, etc. MKE is a very entrepreneurial town that I think invokes the spirit of SEOMoz.
Looking forward to the event at the Harley-Davidson Museum!
I think Milwaukee was a great choice. I met the guys from RocketClicks at MozCon because we were all staying over at the Silver Cloud. They were some great, really smart guys and I'm sure you Mozzers will love Milwaukee. Make sure you go to Kopp's frozen custard - the inspiration for Arnold's drive-in from the show "Happy Days!"
Cape Town sounds awesome, might be worth travelling over from Oz for that one :)
I hope you would choose Philippines next year or on some other years. Congrats to the winners...
Congrats to the winners! Should be a lot of fun!
New Yorkers, let's start planning for next year. ;-)
Awesome! Regal Creative did a great job putting together the Milwaukee Mozcation website. It was so easy to share and get involved. Congrats!
Hey George,
Thanks for the fantastic shout out here! While we spearheaded this nomination and put together the site, nothing would have been possible without the great support from you, and others (Scott at Orion, Mike from Tuna, Luke from Savvy, etc.)!
Cheers
Kyle
Need Sydney, Australia on the next list ;) but overall fantastic entries by all.
Next time, we'll make sure you come to New Delhi,India.
Wow! congrats guys
Yeah Milwaukee, LET'S DO THIS! :-D
Yay!!! MozCon in South Africa!!! Woooo whoooo!
I guess Niagara falls is'nt that bad for me.. a road trip!
