Why Testing in Multiple Broswers is Critical Saltmine, a web design firm based here in Seattle, with locations in Portland & London as well, has created one of the worst rollover menus I've ever seen - and these guys are professional web designers. Their layouts are clean, usable and professional, but due to a lack of testing with any Mozilla client, which now has nearly a 6% market share (much higher in the circles of the technically apt), the menu fails miserably in Firefox. Not surprisingly, it's also un-spiderable to search engines, and Google hasn't found many of their interior pages...

I believe I'll send them a quick email as a courtesy. After all, if I'm going to screenshot their mistakes and make them public online, the least I could do is notify them of it.

Keep these usablity and design mistakes in mind as you build. It can be particularly embarassing to have a client or potential client find these problems before you do. I have had problems like this in the past, and it can be a tough thing to explain.

UPDATE: Brenda from Saltmine has emailed me, indicating they are aware of the issue and working on getting it fixed. She was very complementary and personable - as are many of my fellow Seattlites ;)
