We're getting close to the end of the year, which means halloween, holiday parties and spending time with the family... That is unless you're a mozzer! The fall season has hit us full swing and we're out and about speaking and attending conferences, providing training and traveling from Sweden to Mexico to Vegas baby! Check out where we'll be over the next few months and hopefully we'll see you there!
SMX East - NYC - October 5-7
New York City in the Fall... it's the perfect setting for SMX East. The air is getting crisper, the leaves are falling and search marketers from around the globe take this city by storm. Rand will be speaking the first day on the Revisiting PageRank Sculpting & Siloing panel as well on the 3rd day on Dealing with Domain Names, URLs, Parameters & All that Jazz. You can find me speaking on the last day on the panel Diagnosing Technical SEO Issues. Nick and Adam will also be around, so come find us!
Jane and Robot Search Developer Summit – Google offices NYC - October 8
I really love the Jane and Robot Search Developer Summits. Being a techie at heart, these technical SEO conferences are right up my alley. This particular one is going to be exceptionally great, not only for all the talented speakers but that we get to go to the Google offices in NYC. Woot! Also, it's by invitation only which makes you feel really special (even if it is free). If you're interested in going you can request an invitation. As for us, Nick will be speaking about "Why it is Hard to Crawl your website (and how to fix it!)," plus I will be leading the Round table discussion for the Microsoft stack. Oh! I'll also be helping with registration, so if you see me, please say hi... I'm shy ;).
London & Stockholm
ECMOD London - October 7-9
SMX Stockholm - October 10-13
A4Uexpo London - October 14
Gillian continues her world speaking tour (by this point she's spoken at 2 conferences in Canada, 1 in Los Angeles and attended the Social Media Summit in San Francisco!) by taking on Europe. At ECMOD, Gillian speaks about The State of Search Marketing: Where We Are, Where We're Headed & Why It Matters. Then she jumps over to SMX Stockholm where she'll be speaking on the panel Landing Page Testing and Optimization as well as the SEO Check Up session. From there she heads back to London for the A4Uexpo. WHEW! And the tour is only halfway over, check out where she's headed next!
ExactTarget Connections 09 - Indianapolis, IN - October 13-15
If you love email (and who doesn't?) then you should check out ExactTarget Connections '09, one of the biggest email marketing-focused events out there. You'll not only learn tons of great tactics for improving your email marketing, you'll get to see a keynote by Malcolm Gladwell, and a concert by They Might Be Giants! Who knew Indianapolis could sound so appealing? Scott will be our lone mozzer attending, so find him and say hello!
SEOmoz/Distilled Pro Training Series - London - October 19-20
The Pro Training in Seattle this year was honestly the best conference I've personally ever attended! The speakers were knowledgeable and approachable, the food was great (always a bonus) and the entire event was a hit. I can only imagine that the Pro Training in London is going to be just as great, if not better (I mean, have you seen the venue?!) Rand and Ben will be speaking plus Danny will also be attending, equipped with a tazer to take down Ben if he starts rambling (or so I hear). :)
Update: we're sold out. But you can still join in the after-event party. See Will's blog post for particulars.
SEOmoz is Coming to India! ...and World Brand Congress
SearchMeetup New Delhi - October 20-22
SearchMeetup Bangalore - October 28-30
SearchMeetup Mumbai - October 30-Nov 1
World Brand Congress Mumbai - November 2-4
This is the next round of Gillian's worldwind tour as she heads from London to New Delhi (already oversold - they're looking for a larger venue as I edit) to begin her next round of speaking gigs at various SearchMeetups. She ends in Mumbai to pick up the 2009 World Brand Leadership Award and speak at the conference before heading over the pond to join us at PubCon.*
PubCon - Las Vegas - November 10-13
Hooray! PubCon Vegas! This is one of the most talked about events of year. Speakers submit their pitches during the summer and everyone has their hotel and airfare booked months in advanced. With up to 7 different tracks each day, PubCon covers everything from SEO to Affiliates. I particularly enjoy the Interactive Site Reviews because inevitably someone asks to have their site reviewed, and the poor soul has no idea they've purchased links all across the web and the reviewers reveal it.
If you're looking for the mozzers, you can find us all over the place! Rand will be speaking on the SEO/SEM Tools session on day 2 and on How to Buy Links with Maximum Juice and Minimum Risk on the 3rd day (This was my favorite presentation last year). Gillian ends her tour here at PubCon and will be moderating Real World Winning Tactics for Content Creation on the 3rd day also. Plus Adam, Arden, Scott and I will be around and we’ll have our annual Search Spam party with a whole new deck of cards! (Ooooh I wonder who's on them!! Could it be YOU?)
We still have 20 tickets left for our PubCon Promo - Buy a year's subscription to SEOmoz PRO and get a FREE PubCon 2009 Full Access Pass! The ticket prices for PubCon are about to go up, which will make this deal even better. Better hop to it!
SES Chicago - December 7-11
For the last event of the year, Rand heads off to speak at SES Chicago. Are you tired yet? I'm pretty sure we all are!
Sooooo Sleeeeeeepy
We look forward to the busy few months and seeing everyone! Remember to say hello if you see any of us, whether we look tired like Rand does above, or not. :) Ciao!
*Sadly, SMX Mexico has been postponed. Stay tuned for new dates when they become available.
I'd like to add that, although I'm only a part-time Mozzer, I'll also be at PubCon and am always thrilled to meet members of the Moz community, so don't be afraid to say "hi".
I should also add, as someone who was formerly a community member and didn't know the Moz team personally, they're a friendly group across the board who love to meet community members.
I'm so glad I found the most flattering photo possible and suggested it for this post. Mystery Guest will have to beat off the hordes now...
Actually very excited for the travel - but getting a bit nervous about all these presentations. Though, compared to Gillian, my travel will be a cakewalk!
Thanks for taking on the world tour, Mom :-)
To accompany this blog post, there should be a picture of you in a red coat and red hat (https://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=Carmen+Sandiego&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&aq=f&oq=) :)
Looking forward to seeing you guys in Vegas!
Can't wait to see Mozzers at all the London events. Amazing weather right now; I'm sure we'll have turned it off by the time you get here :)
I have to admit to being occasionally disappointed that the "Jane and Robot" conference is not hosted by you and a robot. That would be awesome. Vanessa Fox and Nick are pretty cool, too, though ;)
I'll be honest, that was the first thing that came to my mind. Then I thought "wait, they have robots in london?"
I do get every so slightly startled every time I see it because, despite its simplicity, I don't come across my name terribly often in the wild...
I have to agree with Jenn, SEOmoz Pro Training in Seattle was awesome! I think it was the best conference I have ever attended. Great speakers, great content and great networking ops.
It's amazing how hard you guys work! Good info on the events though, see you at Pubcon!
I don't know why SES holds the conference in Chicago in December but we'll see you there Rand since that's in our backyard!
Out of all of the SEO conferences in the world ever!!! :-)
Which are the best 3 to attend and why…
And Rand, you have my permission to plug your own seminars :-)
Ouch - that's a tough one to call. I would say that this past year, the SEOmoz Seattle seminar was the top on my list - I was trying my best to be objective, but the speakers and content was simply incredible (and the feedback surveys certainly indicated as much), especially for the price (about half what any major conference charges). That said, I don't think we've delivered that same level of quality the previous two years and I'd probably put Pubcon and SMX Advanced as my favorites before 2009.
Some of the international shows have really impressed me, too. Both SES and SMX London were nearly on par with SMX Advanced this year in terms of quality of material. Maybe the British are just more demanding or more advanced overall when it comes to SEO. RIMC (Reykjavik Internet Marketing Conference) in Iceland was only one day, but also featured some really amazing speakers (SEO guys for the NFL and for the BBC with awesome case studies, for example) and the day after glacier hiking tour was probably the best day I've experienced since my wedding.
SMX Sydney was also top notch - and my keyntoe wasn't that well received because I presented at too low a level (that was a really advanced audience).
Last - Just got back from SEM Konferansen in Oslo and enjoyed that quite a bit. I only got to see a few presentations, but Lisa Myers, Jon Myers, Adam Lasnik and Bryan Eisenberg were all terrific (much of the rest was in Norwegian, so it might have been great, but my Norwegian just isn't what it used to be) :-)
I may just be missing it but... is there a way to purchase DVDs of the Seatlle training seminar? I attended last year and it was great but could not attend this year. Thanks for any help!
Yep, they'll be coming out in November :)
Indianapolis isn't all that boring; "who knew Indianapolis could sound so appealing?".
Tell Scott if he likes steak may I suggest St. Elmo's in Indy its white clothe but great food, if you don't like steak there is always Hooters. Also, the Pacers might be in town if you get bored with email marketing.
I'm a little confused that Rand will be speaking on this session:
"Linkfluence: How to Buy Links with Maximum Juice and Minimum Risk"
...after this blog post just a few weeks ago: Our Stance on Paid Links & Link Ads.
Will he just be arguing the point of not buying links?
They've asked me to present a counterpoint on the issue (as someone who doesn't support paid links). I expect the Pubcon audience will give me a very hard time, but it should be interesting, nonetheless.
I'll also be presenting some material like last year, when I spoke about "How to Buy Links Without Buying Links."
This was my favorite session last year at PubCon mainly for your points on buying links without buying links. It was one of those "duh! Why didn't I think of that" moments.
I agree it should make for a very interesting panel, considering Aaron Wall will also be on it :)
Agreed - that guy is super smart :-)
I'm really excited that the London seminar "across the bloody pond" is going to sell out. Quite a lot of people have been coming up to me at conferences and saying they intend to buy tickets. If that's you: get in now! There may be none left by next week.
Looking forward to meeting everyone at the SMX East show next week. This is the first conference I'll be going to for Search Engine Marketing.
Hi Jennita,
I would love to attend ... in the meantime I love your comments and advices on seomoz!
Hey Jennita,
Thanks for all the info. I have a question. I live in Hyderabad, India and am planning to attend search meetups in Bangaluru (previously Bangalore). Can you please post more info on venues, prices etc for all the places in India?
arg i want to go :(
Instead of congratulating yourself on how much carbon pollution you produce in order to make more money, why not educate yourselves on the damage you're doing - and then act to stop it.
Or maybe global warming is a problem for other people to solve?
Mankind uses more energy now than it has at any point in the past and we have a better quality of life because of it. A hundred years from now when we are all long gone our descendents will use far more energy than we do. How?
Technology, mankind’s problems can be overcome using technology. Trying to reduce the use of fossil fuels will fail because the fuels have too many benefits.
How sanctimonious of us would it be to tell the third/developing world we have the advantages of this technology but we don’t want you to use it!
We will have a better quality of life in the future and it will come from development not abstinence. Money needs to be put into development of green technologies not pointless political lobbying.
Anyway I didn’t come here to rant about the environment. Why not use Google Latitude to show where the Moz team is?
Just FYI - while it's not a perfect solution, we do buy carbon credits to offset our travel. I know there's flaws with these programs, but both travel and environmental responsibility are important to all of us here at SEOmoz (my ride to work is a scooter that gets 120+ mpg). :-)
I would definitely rock a scooter if I lived close to work. Do you have the goggles and scarf to match?
Interesting choice of posts you've chosen to comment on in the last couple of years.
