Starting tomorrow morning, I'll be traveling to Europe for a mix of business and pleasure. My itinerary includes:
- London - both to visit clients and speak at the SES London Conference
- Munich - where I'll be meeting my long-time girlfriend's father for the first time
- Milan - another client and a potential new one
- Venice - pure vacation
According to Brandon, my hotel is right around here (rough life, eh?)
Since my web connection will be spurious at best, particulary after I leave London, posting may be exceptionally light. I am looking forward to having a bit more of a European perspective on the search and Internet fields and should have some new content for the blog on my return.
Any great recommendations for restaurants, museums, etc. in those cities is certainly appreciated!
p.s. I'll also be slow via email, so if you've got pressing concerns, please direct them to another SEOmozzer (this gang).
Rand you should definitely visit Amsterdam... i wil buy you a beer
Enjoy your trip Rand, it should be fun, plus the weather is really nice right now, especially in Italy. Even if I'm in Paris, I won't be able to go to SES, but if you decide to visit Paris, let me know.
Hey Rand. If you got time, I'll buy some proper English beer in London. Drop me a line at Cre8...

Rand, In my second year of college, I studied at Tel Aviv University in Israel for 5 months and back-packed through Europe on the way home. I went to Italy, Switzerland, France, and England. Venice was the most incredible place I've ever been. I met some girls at the train station and spent the next 3 days with them. Venice is different from anything you've ever experienced. Canals instead of streets is the coolest part. One day, we got a map and picked a destination and walked there instead of taking a gondola, so we wondered all around Venice, walked in every little beautiful and incredible church we passed, and crossed over every little bridge to get to the other side of the street. Have a great time! Risa
See ya in London!
Venice is incredible Rand - the secret tour of the Doge's Palace is pretty cool - but its the city is the real experience. Have a great time!
Have a great trip!
Have fun at SES... I wish I could have also made it, but no such luck (I'm on the road also, but nowhere near London)... Maybe they make SES stockholm in 2007 (a hint)...
As for internet, it should work fine around the europe, if you get a mobile /wireless connection from some of the big names (like vodafone).
I can't wait to read how you observe european search markets.
I took a very similar trip in February/March, it was great. The only place finding a connection wasn't easy was Venice, and the internet cafes there were the most expensive. Plenty to see within a short distance of the area you're staying including Piazza San Marco & the Guggenheim Collection.
Rand ... enjoy it.
After visiting Germany (Frankfurt) I was happy to be here in U.S. Maybe I should post my trip report on my blog? We'll see.
I once asked a man who had seen the entire world 3 times probably, what was the most beautiful place he has seen. Answer was..... Italy.
Be sure to take a "head count" at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. You should recognize a theme when it comes to the heads in the art work...
