Snail mail is dead, right? Apparently not! Recently SEOmoz received a written letter from a well-meaning entrepreneur at a federal correctional institution, asking us if we could send him any information about SEOmoz's services.
Happy to oblige (and surprised to receive a written request in the mail that wasn't a ransom note for Michael Martinez's kidnapping [we would pay the ransom to free him, but we're too lazy]), we printed out our Beginner's Guide and mailed it to our newfound fan. Lo and behold, he sent a thank you note scrawled on the letter we sent with the guide:
We asked if we could post his letters on our site, which he happily gave us permission to do so. (Click on the snippets to read the letters in their entirety.)
What did we learn from the exchange? Two things:
What did we learn from the exchange? Two things:
- It's always fun to receive letters in the mail
- SEOmoz has fans in all sorts of places
Ummmm....you might want to actually delete the other copy of his letter from your site - the first version which still has his contact information on it.
Pretty unique situation, though! Interesting...
Whoops, thanks.
It looks like Korey's other business plans didn't work out.
And who would say that the Internet has not improved our lives?
Ouch!
wow!!!
Woa! Looks like Korey needs to read this article: Search Marketing in Regulated Industries
haha!
What are you going to do when he shows up at your office in a few months and is looking for a job or a date?
I guess Rand will have to tell him that he's flattered but already has a girlfriend.
Seriously though, I thought that if you're out on parole you can't leave the state.
Sweet... a modern day George Jung :P
I wonder how he found out about SEOmox in the first place and what his company is going to be?
As long as it has nothing to do with MySpace it's ok with me.
I want to know about "SEOmox" too. Are they our competition? :P
Hey... the "x" is right next to the "z"...
Looks like I'm not the only one with a fat pinky...

(Actually, my fingers are pretty skinny...)
Except for your freakishly fat pinkie!
I have a friend in prison (drove drunk and killed someone in a crash) who gets out in about six months. I have been sending him white papers, how-to articles, blog entries, etc. for over a year now. I think it will be good for him to have a head start in gaining the skills necessary to become a competent SEO. I even signed him up for that free search marketing standard subscription that was going around awhile back. He really enjoys getting those.
So that's an idea Rand. Sponsor an inmate! Get the guy a subscription to one of your favorite magazines and have them sent directly to the prison.
Cool... so the morale of the story is, if you want a reply from SEOmoz, send a snail mail letter, not an email. ;)
Hey - we're pretty good about replying to emails, too. Not perfect, but at least 95%
Just giving you a hard time. ;)
