Internet Relay Chat (aka IRC) is an older form of communication on the internet. It's an online discussion system where you join "channels," which are basically chat rooms. I frequent several technical channels but recently have been spending some time in one centered around SEO. The topics of discussion are pretty mixed– ranging from beginner SEO questions to advanced PPC and SEO tool development stuff. The channel also has an "SEO bot" that allows you to query things like backlinks and pagerank directly in the channel itself.
The channel is #SEO on Efnet. The easiest way to get connected it to download an IRC client (a lot of people use mIRC, xchat, or Trillian), connect to an Efnet server, then type: /join #SEO
irchelp.org is a good place to get started on how to use IRC.
If you're in need of some SEO chat goodness, feel free to stop by. My name is Matt and I'm usually in the channel using the nickname "Oatmeal."

#SEO is still really active. I'm in there daily and there's lots of real-time discussion. It helps me stay current, easier.
I just gave this old link a shot and sure enough the channel is still very much full; I've posted a simple question and haven't got a reply yet... maybe they're all robots?
More SEO channels would be awesome, quick help and advice when you're in a spot.
The channel's abuzz!
what does freenode have to do with the #SEO help channel on the EFnet IRC Network?
I'd hate to think you are attempting to hijack the thread to promote a splinter IRC network.. EFnet is the original IRC network, back when IRC was just IRC, and there were no different networks.
Thanks for the tip Matt. I have not used IRC since high school and first year of college. It was such a great place to meet new people and rather addicting.
IRC can be good resource for fast answers specially when we talk about freenode IRC network.
