Jill Whalen's linking to a good post on her (new?) blog through her signature at HighRankings. I like what she's got to say:
Often, when they get their answer, they write back with something like, “But, so-and-so SEO guru wrote this article here at [insert stupid SEO site that prints any article they can get their hands on] which says the opposite of what you just said.”
Fine, then listen to them if you prefer.
Folks, you need to choose your SEO guru and stick with them. Who do you believe? Who makes sense? Who uses an SEO method that you can live with?
Very good points, Jill. I run into the same thing myself and have to turn to evidence to back up my findings. I always try to point out some smart things about the argument against my point, then return with common sense answers to finish it off. I can't blame folks for being skeptical and looking at all sides, though - it's what we tell them to do!
I love that he can get me #1 in HotBot! What's their market share up to now? 0.00034%?
If I'm not wrong he was a spammer at a forum which I don't hang around anymore. Based on the number of visitors you have Rand, he have now said to the hole SEO-world the he and his company are loosers. Only loosers would spam your blog and also not see that you are using nofollow.
I don't think you should delete his post, let everybody see forever what kind of company this is.
I'm a spammer. My site is www.genbucks.com/?lorenzo77 and my email is [email protected]

I wonder if he is commenting over at Matt's blog? PR7 on the homepage... Maybe Matt will try his maxwilly site template. https://www.mattcutts.com/blog
I wonder to see spam commenting in a very reputed SEO orginization site. Also wonder that why SEOMOZ approve this type of comment.
Geez - this guy just won't give up. What do you think folks? Delete his posts? Out his IP? Ban him? Both?
Must have a very low understanding of the site, too, as he hasn't bothered to put his URL in the profile (where it doesn't have a nofollow).
BTW - Natasha, that's an ingenius piece of writing you've linked to. And, since I know Mr. Godin's name (though I've yet to read his blog), I shall heed your words of wisdom. :D
That's a beautiful piece of spam, seo india. Too bad all the links have nofollow!
Honestly... who spams SEOmoz?
Sorvoja, I am betting that clients who take your word for things are the same clients who always read your posts in the forums. They know you by your record there thus they have no need to question. Also, I take your word and don't require documented sources and enjoy it more if those things are not publicized across the web. The good judgement of a savvy SEO is a valuable competetive advantage.
That's an excellent post. By coincidence, yesterday on the phone I heard from a marketing manager prospect that they're doing their website design internally and their technical guy says there's no problems for search engines and frames. I gave him a link to a 2000 article by Jill Whalen on how to make framed sites perform better with the SEO's. Even in 2000 Jill was making the right reservations about the approach. Clearly with CSS there is no need to use frames, unless you really are stuck on that approach.
The key problem here is that web design is so complex that, if someone has limited time and knowledge, it's tough for them to know who to believe.
Along the same lines is the hilarious self proclaimed marketing guru's post over at Corante.
Natasha "That Girl From Marketing" Robinson
Well, it would be GREAT if she could share her *experience* with both feet on the ground. :D
There are clients who always take my word for things and there are those who want me to provide sources and links to futher information. The clients who take my word for things get more work done for their dollars and teh second kind will learn a lot of SEO. I don't mind eighter kind of client.
