Stories, news, and other notable items from the past week:

Rae Hoffman is giving away a ticket to meet Shawn Tompkins and learn some MMA 101 while you're networking in Vegas next week. All you have to do is leave a comment over on Rae's blog about why you kick ass. If your comment is the best, you'll win the free ticket!
- Missed SMX London but clamoring for a recap? Richard Baxter was kind enough to summarize SMX London in two posts, so check them out if you want to get your jolly ol' recap on.
- Michael Gray has a new project called Viral Conversations. The site "[brings] together product marketers and people who test products and generate product reviews. These online reviews are effective tools in the marketing of new products in the marketplace. Get your items into the hands of real life people who will get the word out about your product line." It should be an interesting site to keep an eye on...
- The SEO Greenhouse came out with a nifty SERP rank traffic calculator that's based on AOL traffic data. It doesn't spell funny words like 80085, but it's handy nonetheless.

- Speaking of the election, as you probably know, Tuesday proved to be an exceptionally historic night. As I'm sure you're all aware, this election marked the first time a Delawarean has been elected to national office. Inspiring, isn't it? I thought Delaware was a made up place, like Narnia or Mordor.
- Okay, pretty much most of these roundup links will be election-related so just bear with me here. According to Hitwise, Yahoo! was the #1 source of election news. I bet Google's glad we only have these things once every 4 years. Meanwhile, Twitter, Digg, YouTube, and the LA Times all reported record-breaking traffic numbers on Election Day.
- Seth Godin shares some marketing lessons learned from the US election. The #1 lesson learned: Tina Fey is able to make any situation at least 75% funnier.
- Fast Company published a duo of interesting articles. First, they analyzed how social media boosted election awareness and voting. Secondly, they ask whether employees are twittering away productivity. To the latter I scoff and say hell no! I'm not procrastinating, I'm conducting research for a blog post!
- ReadWriteWeb teaches us how to use the new Google web search RSS feeds.

- Rand's 5-star pick of the week is a video from the Business of Software conference that has a ton of startup advice.
- As for my 5-star link? You know what they say: 700 pictures are worth more words than you can imagine.

I can't believe you mentioned "free Cialis" without dropping a link.
Saw (or didn't see), your Octopus link on Twitter the other day. That's freaking amazing.
I thought Delaware was "Dell schwag". Is it really a state?
Im surprised that new firefox extension "glync" didn't make the list.
Because I am a good person, I wont link to my own stuff here - but I am certainly shameless enough to give this comment a thumbs up!
just say no to hermit crab juggling.
I REALLY want to see a video of that.
That sounds like my kinda octopus.. lol
Its only the other guys living in his tank, and his neighbours who think he's an asshole. Oh and his keepers.
But I reckon when the visitors around he's a legend - I mean if he juggles hermit crabs when bored - what'll he do when showing off?!
great list, especially liked the link of ultimate productivity toolkit. great read and resources. thanks
Forget about SEO for two minutes...I'm still tripping out on the invisible octopus. That is rad!
I've never been so happy to be called a sneaky bastard...
I used to think Rhode Island was a made up place like Mordor or Narnia. Actually, come to think of it, I was convinced Narnia was real. But Rhode Island--definitely fake. IT'S NOT EVEN AN ISLAND PEOPLE. And would a bunch of superstitious Puritans really settle on 13 colonies? Huh? I don't think so. Rhode Island was made up to give us an even 50 states without breaking up Texas into two parts... Oh--and Tamar as always is teh awesome. But you've linked her story to the octopus thing.
Oops, thanks for catching that. Fixed now!
Wow, bunch of good links. I'm still digesting and will come back to it later. Especially have to look at the lazy bloggers guide.
Just read your ridiculously long roundups. Couldnt live without it and you the whole week. :P
Was wondering who came up with this pretty spectacular tool (Page Strength tool) ? ;)
Interesting, I read Seth Godin's post and watched the onstartups-video right before seeing that the new roundup thursday post is out ... did you install a kind of trojan on my PC? ;-)
DiamondCrustedGoblets.com doesn't work :( And I was really looking forward to one of those goblets now..
