The analytics system I set up through MyBlogLog hasn't received many comments from users - hopefully you don't mind the little pop-ups over links; I personally think they're a very cool resource. This past week has been a good way to analyze what's been going on with the traffic to the SEOmoz blog (this doesn't count the tools, articles, or other pages on the site). Hopefully, this data can help to bring better understanding about traffic patterns in general and our traffic in particular. It should also give a good idea of how to analyze (on a simplistic level) traffic patterns and specifics.
For the week of Tues. Oct. 18 - Tues. Oct 25
- 2,305 offsite clicks
- 6,268 page views
- 2,717 readers
- Most popular outgoing clicks:
- 12 Directories to Submit to - 159 clicks
- The SEO Map - 131 clicks
- Etsy Collective E-tail Store - 101 clicks
- Texas Hold'em Poker Site - 68 clicks
- Dilbert Cartoon - 64 clicks
- Dan Thies' SEO Video - 48 clicks
- MSN Engineer Video - 48 clicks
- Avg of 388 unique readers per day (for the blog)
- Avg of 0.85 clicks/reader
- Avg of 2.31 page views per reader
It's good data to have, and although I could have most of this through our site tracking stats package, the outgoing links data is really fascinating to me - something I never would have discovered without MyBlogLog.
I am running it on one of my homepages that has nearly 100 outlinks. However, I have it set not to display the tracking to site visitors. I will use this data to identify popular outlinks, tweak anchor text to determine impact and cut links to sites that do not attract interest.
My ultimate motive here is to find out which outlinks are passing a lot of traffic. That data might be used to set advertising rates and inform future content development so that the visitors stay on my site.
