Thanks to Doldoly at SEW who pointed out PreviewSeek, a new search engine based in the UK. This engine is something special already. They've got a killer index size for being such a small player, and have indexed many of the smaller sites I tested on them quite thoroughly. They've also got some interesting information that they provide on the SERPs pages that indicates to me a very high level of thinking about both the users and the future of web search.
One tidbit that's particularly cool is their feature at the top of the results for many terms that show what they "know" about the given search term or subject. For example, when I searched for SEO, PreviewSeek gave me a litany of information about the subject, including the ability to add keywords from the description to my search or search them seperately.
They've also included clustering on the left hand side like many of the newer engines and have preview panes and thumbshots of the sites in the results. My only big quarrel would be with the high number of results they show from a single website. Many of my searches resulted in only a single website being shown, albeit with many of those interior pages as more relevant to the query than any other site.
All in all, I'm very impressed, and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing more from them in the future. We could always use more competition in the search space.
