Buenos Dias, marketers!
Today's an exciting day! We're thrilled to announce the launch of the 2012 SEOmoz Industry Survey. It's been 2 long years since our last survey, which had more than 10,000 respondents from around the world and produced some of the most detailed public information ever assembled about the growing fields of SEO, social media, content, and organic/inbound marketing.
This year's survey is projected to take about 20 minutes to complete (I took it twice and the first time took me ~18 minutes), and it's slightly more detailed than 2010's. We know this means a little extra work on your part, but we hope it will be worth it as we make the data available to all. The survey's available now in SurveyMonkey and will run for 5 weeks to collect data (but early participation's greatly appreciated):
The following sections contain the 54 total questions (49 if you're not an agency/consultant):
- Your Work in the Industry
- Questions for Consultants, Freelancers, and Agencies
- Learning and Improving Internet Marketing Skills
- Internet and Inbound Marketing Scope and Process
- Inbound Marketing Tools and Tactics
- SEO Tools and Tactics
- Social Media Tools and Tactics
- Predictions/Opinions for Internet/Inbound Marketing
As an added incentive for the survey, we are offering the following excellent prizes to some lucky participants: One Grand Prize Winner will get a 16GB Wifi iPad 3. Three First Prize Winners will each get a $75 ThinkGeek gift certificate. Ten Second Prize Winners will each get a $25 gift certificate to the SEOmoz Zazzle Store. To see the full sweepstakes terms and rules, check out our sweepstakes rules page. The winners will be announced by June 4th.
We'd also like to thank our partners who are helping to encourage marketers around the world to participate in the survey, including Outspoken Media, Search Engine Land, Distilled, Hubspot, Search Engine Journal, Techipedia, AimClear, Blueglass, Marketing Pilgrim and Search Engine Watch.
If you're able, a tweet, Google+ share, Facebook share, or blog post of your own would be incredibly appreciated. It's our goal to reach as many professionals as possible and share something truly remarkable from the data.
Thanks for your help and participation!
ETA 4/27/12: Because we want to gather the best data from a wider sample set, we've extended the Industry Survey deadline until Friday, May 18th. Help your fellow online marketers and take the 2012 Industry Survey today.
This is long over due, but looking at all the blogs/news sites you listed, I'm happy this is a lot more organized than in the past.
Once again, SEOmoz showing us how it's done when it comes to establishing yourself as the authority.
Thanks, Jon. Since I spent a great deal of time recently writing/rewriting/organizing the doc, along with Dr. Pete and Katie, with reviews from about 4 other Mozzers, your feedback is greatly appreciated. :D
Completed. I hope my 2 cents will benefit the total result.
While doing this survey I learned of about 30 new tools.
I felt the same way about tools when I was writing it. =D Especially after I was done reviewing it with Rand.
Erica, this selection is great; it's worth a couple of separate detailed blog posts ;) Thank you for the time and effort you guys spent on preparing this survey.
Done. Questions are pretty good organized. And i find few interestng tools in list, tnx.
Thank you for taking it. Glad you found some new tools!
I am just dying to review the results.....hurry up everyone and do it :)
I second that :) There were some great questions about inbound marketing that make me really curious as to what the results are going to look like. Thanks Mozzers.
Took the survey in under 20 min and can't wait to see infografics on all the results!
Great job Erica & team. I kind of suspected Spain would be excluded from the sweepstake (and was right!) but it's all done and some great, thought-provoking questions. I'm a one man band, so it's hardly going to sway the results in a huge manner, but happy to participate and same as everyone else, I'll be eagerly awaiting the results!!
Thanks, David!
Well, we are interested in what one-man band shops are doing too! :D
Roger, Completed the survey!
Well, the survey was certainly thorough. I will be looking forward to the results.
Awesome. Just completed - looking forward to the results!
Hi,
Just completed the survey, is there away to get a list of the product/services & websites listed within the survey, without going through it again?
Kieron
Awesome, I can't wait to see the results.
Completed the survey, can't wait for the results :)
completed and shared!!! Can't wait to see the results!
Completed the survey, Overall was pretty long but didnt mind it as I would rather provide as much information as possible to asssit the SEO community.
Most of the tools we are using so It was really tickfest, a few were not included so I have added more where possible.
Completed! Looking forward to checking out the results!
Task completed - but I had to curse a little bit during the "session". I guess it took me almost twice as long because after submitting the "next" button it took me three times back to the start!!
Sorry about that! We found a couple major edits, and when we changed the question, anyone taking the survey was bumped back to the start.
Tweeted, Liked, +1'd and shoveled upon my colleagues' instant messenger windows.
Any idea if you guys be making a new version of this product later this year? https://www.zazzle.com/seomoz_2010_industry_survey_poster-228762930847199982
I'm not totally sure, but its likely :) We love turning the data into pretty things! Others from Moz might know definitely yes or no, but Id say there is a good chance :)Thanks for sharing it!
There aren't currently plans, but it's something on the radar. Sorry for the vauge answer, but I hate to promise things we don't deliever!
will do it =) can't wait to see the result.
Fascinated to see the results, is there an ETA on that?
We're just wrapping up the final touches on our analysis, and hopefully, we'll be publishing the results in the next month or so.
A little help back to SEOmoz :-) Shared on Linkedin, G+, Twitter and Fb.
Thank you! :)
Survey completed and shared - now to keep my fingers crossed for winning one of those prizes haha
Survery completed!Good luck to those who have entered the prize draw!
Completed the survey and shared it, can't wait to see the results! If you need a hand visualising them don't hesitate to drop us a line : )
Think you must the cut off date by 1 day :(
wow! that was much more comprehensive than I imagined at first! now I'm really looking forward to seeing the results
on another note Rand, can you please address the incremental stripping of referrer data? this is a huge issue for publishers. Danny from searchengineland has been on top of it but I haven't seen anything here (maybe I missed it). Recently firefox announced they were switching to secured search removing even more data from analytics going forward.
the issue of course is that google is not playing fair. if this was a move to have everyone migrate to ssl it would be great but it isn't of course
would appreciate your insight on this Rand
It felt like I just took an exam. I hope I passed! :)
I wanted to take the survey and as well win a prize, but Philippines is not included how sad.
You can still take the survey! (Sorry about the prize factor; some countries just don't don't let us run sweepstakes very easily. :( )
It's okay, I understand. I will still take the survey coz I am interested and this blog helps us a lot in understanding SEO.
What sort of privacy guidelines exist for the survey? Will unpublished insights be communicated to people who do not work for SEO Moz like sponsoring partners or Google?
We do not share your private info (being email address, if you opt into the sweeps) with anyone. We do share the annoymous raw data with our partners. And we will publish the arragated, annoymous results -- in a meaningful manner -- for the world to see here on our blog. Since Google's not a partner or otherwise involved in any manner, they'll get to see our blogs post about it.
As a previous Survey Monkey user, on completion of each sruvey, it would benefit you to redirect the user to your preferred landing page, instead of having them arrive at Survey Monkey's website.
Thanks! In our excitement to get it out, we forgot to add the link to the page! Will do that now, thanks for the reminder. :)
I have completed the survery and expecting the gift
Hi Rand, I couldn't complete the survey because of the technical issue in the survey form as I mentioned it to you in mail. So Inshort I missed the chance of prize... :(
Hi Asad,
Did you get my email in response to your email to Rand? The survey should work perfectly now. :D
Erica McGillivray, yeah I got your reply, many many thanks for that, but don't you know I am the laziest SEO guy on this earth... :\
