I ordered my brand new Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop today. I was swayed mostly by the widescreen SUXGA monitor, which allows for a resolution of 1920 x 1200, along with the weight (6.65 lbs.), battery life (almost 6 hours) and price (mine was $1500 including 3 year warranty).
I'm a big Dell fan, and though I've tried some products from Toshiba, Gateway, HP and a few others, I find that Dells seem to be solid, reliable, powerful and problem-free. I admit to spending an inordinate amount of time researching laptops (almost 4 months now) and at the last second, I almost bought the Thinkpad T-Series, but simply couldn't stomach the extra $1000 it would have cost to get what I wanted (128MB graphics card, 1024 RAM, etc).
I'll let you know how it performs late next week. I'm planning to replace my desktop at work with it and take it with me on my many planned travels this year. You could probably tell from my last post that laptops were on my brain :)
Got mine October last year. The best thing about this laptop is I can play Civilization 4 even if it's way below the minimum required specs :) one not so great thing about it is it's a bit heavy to carry around...
I'm typing this comment to you via my own Dell Inspiron 6000, bought about 3/4 months back. I love it. I've traveled with it, and it's been my house-buddy (because my Dell desktop is too heavy to walk around with. heh.)
It's performed beautifully. No problems whatsoever.
The Inspiron 600m is a sweet laptop, but you should check out the new dell inspiron 700m. This thing is tiny, wide screen and stunning.
In my opinion the 6000m is one of dell's nicest laptops around, which offers a nice large screen as well, and thin paneling.
I've had a Toshiba Tecra M4 for about a year now. Now that I've used a Tablet PC, I don't think I'd switch back to anything else. I do wish Dell made one, though. Their obstinance on that point drives me crazy. Vista runs like a champ on it.

Rand - got the same machine here. it's sweet - you'll love it.
i also got the verizon broadband which also rocks! highspeed internet everywhere now.
I got the Dell Inspiron 6000 two months ago (1.73 GHz, WSXGA, 1GB Memory, 64MB Video Card) and I've been VERY happy with it. Enjoy!
Barry, I actually tried using some coupons, but to no avail - I don't think they work in the Dell Outlet section (which is where I got mine). It's $2200 new, so I figured a used and returned box is fine.
Nadir - I don't know that any SEO software won't run on Macs. Most of what we run is web-based. Maybe you mean something like Web CEO, but I'm a fan of homegrown solutions, personally.
Rand, I don't know, I was under the impression that you were on MAC? I need a new laptop too, I'm considering buying something solid that time, like an IBM but I'm also interested in a Mac, but just wondering if it won't be a problem with most of the software we use for SEO that might not run on Mac, any suggestion?
Yes, Web CEO, IBP from Axandra, SEO Elite etc. I actually posted a link on Cre8 and I got good advices on why I should keep Windows ;)
Same as mine! you wont be dissapointed its a brilliant laptop. The battery on mine still lasts for 5+ hours despite it being discharged at least 400 times. The sounds pretty good from such tiny speakers also.
Great machines, those Dells. We use them in our office extensively, and have converted all of our clients to them (which leads to some nice deals when we need one ourselves). But for my development machine, I still hand-build them with the best components and I still have a back-ache from carrying around the Alienware 7700 wherever I go (which still spanks the Dell XPS systems like crazy). Just wish I had more than 20 mins battery life LOL
Grats on the new machine :)
Congrats! I am a bit upset you went with Microsoft, but we all cant be fans of the superior OS X. kidding.
I hope you used a coupon, there is one at https://www.gottadeal.com/DirectDeal/1348
