The news reporting from bloggers has evolved so much over the past 4 years that major media organizations have begun covering the reports from the blogosphere. Incredibly, this trend looks to be long term and the de-centralization of media appears to have true momentum.
A project of BlueHereNow Technologies, called Now Public, has taken this kind of reporting to a new level by offering news on demand from thousands of member/blogger/reporters around the United States and the world. The goal is to offer a blog-like news service that creates independent journalists around the globe, reporting the news as it happens from their own perspective. They use digital cameras, video recorders and their own blogging skills to independently report the news. The site aggregates the content, allows users to vote on the subjects and quality of information and customize the feeds as they wish.
It's a fairly mammoth endeavor, but I wish them luck. This is the kind of application for the Internet that was barely conceived of just a few years ago.
