Via Gary Price - Exalead, a major competitior in the 2nd tier search engines, has an incredible array of advanced operators to help sophisticated users refine queries. The offerings include:
- An advanced search page with the ability to modify virtually every aspect of keywords on/off page
- A set of advanced operators to narrow your search
- Another set that can widen your search
- A heap of cool sidebar information about categorization, related terms, etc. (a practical replacement for Teoma's resources!)
It may seem trivial, but one of the things you can do with this is search for pages by date, enabling you to find only links to a site that have been created/found in the last 10 weeks (or 10 days). When Exalead starts crawling the web deeper (and faster), expect this service to be in high demand by SEO link seekers and reverse algoers (just made that last one up).
Did anyone else notice that Exalead pulled the related term "Newsweek article" for the search for "Rand Fishkin" - that's pretty good technology... Danny Sullivan and Matt Cutts are also related terms.
Yep, the concept is really good. Note that their Head of Business Development is Frank Poisson, the ex Head of Bus Dev for Google France since its creation in 2002 and stayed with them until 2005 when he chose to work with Exalead.
WOW! This is a very insightful post...
Like rmccarley, I was also being "smart" since I posted my comment when the post was empty as well.
This is an interesting post... Am I missing something?
??? What would you be missing?
I did note that Exalead is reporting to me that their advanced search is not functional right now...
Rand , rmc said that because for a few minutes, the post was empty, there was only the title ;)
Yup, I was being "smart". It is a great post though (now that there is content) and I look forward to abusing this tool.
oops - didn't realize that had happened...
