My friend Scott Fish dropped me a line on this neat little opportunity to pick up domain names at a very nice price:
On Tuesday, the 14th between 4pm est until 5pm est Dotster.com is giving away $1 domains (limit 1 per order, but you can make unlimited orders). Any COM/NET/ORG domain can be registered.
Shows above - a countdown timer on the homepage of the Dotster site giving you the heads up for how long to wait. I'm planning on picking up a few myself.
Yeah - despite enjoying Scott's blog and liking him personally, I'd have to say that this was a very poorly managed promotion. It's going to be hard for them to push another sale or event to the blogosphere and web community after losing cred due to technical issues.
Also, the first "1000" buyers thing really irked people since it wasn't intially disclosed. A virtual case study in how not to market yourself.
Tomorrow they're doing it again - only this time it’s only 50 cents for a domain name. 5-6 pm EST
Promos are to bring new customers right? (duh), well they sure wont get my business if they arent prepared for the storm when making this a one hour thing. What did they expect? i dont know anyone! who were sucessfully completing a purchace, shit wouldnt load.
kid disco, thanks for the heads up on yahoo, i just picked one up. unfortunatly its only one per customer/new customers.
and to pass on the torch, registerfly is having a 24hour promo for .com $6.99 and a 48hour promo for .net at $5.50
I created an account at Dotster this morning and was ready to start buying a domain right after 1:00 p.m. (4:00 p.m. EST). It took maybe 5 minutes for the pages to load and none of the javasript buttons worked. Oh well... Yahoo Domains is having a deal right now where you can buy domains for $2.99/year for up to 5 years... FYI!
Great find, Scott!
Thanks for the info, Rand!
My buddy works at Dotster and he said they got hammered like crazy today. Unfortunately the first 1000 customers were the only ones to get the promotional price.
I hope their servers can handle such an event.
