SEOmoz and Kat Ortland, who's been with us nearly a year, are parting ways today - Kat's off to pursue bigger and bolder ventures in the world of journalism and we wish her well. Her work with us, particularly on the Web2.0 Awards project helped to make her a star and we're looking forward to seeing great things from her career in the future.
Kat & Bill (Slawski) Show their Love of Citrus at SES San Jose
What does this mean for SEOmoz? Well, it firstly spells a bigger workload for Rebecca (and the rest of us, too). We also might be hiring in the next few months, so keep an eye out!
Kat - gone? Bummer. Rebecca can definately handle it though. Rand, if you need another hand, I might have some solutions.
Kat...good luck - you'll do well for sure!
Thanks, Scorth...who are you, btw?
Ah, the mystery. is it killin' ya? ;) Scott Orth from Portland - you know... Midori Sour!?!?
Thanks Scott! See you around in Portland. Look for me at the marathon.
You know, when I have changed jobs in the past I heard employers refer to my last position as my 'past life' - that always really struck me as disturbing because there is no death or rebirth with the passing from placement to placement or from career to career, they are all breadcrumbs in the building of our great sticky bun of destiny, which is quite cyclical, and is the natural growth process.
Once Kat finds a new job, I'm sure your readers will want to know about it. This is an involved and appreciative community, which should benefit Kat and all of us longterm.
And now that Rebecca is taking on the work and growing in her own space, I sure do hope that her SEO, 2.0, link bait and PR skills are more polished than those of her Texas Holdem' Poker ones :)
Best to all of you, Loren
Hey man, my Hold 'em skills are just fine, thank you very much. It's not my fault that we were dealt one crappy hand in five minutes. Blame Bodog!
LOL, just joshin' ya! Go kick some royal butt with your new responsibilities.
Rebecca ... sometimes having skill just doesn't cut it. Check out the bad beat I took on my cruise last week. https://superrob.blogspot.com/2006/08/poker-cr...
Page not found.
Damn, must have dropped a character. https://superrob.blogspot.com/2006/08/poker-cr...
Yeah, I'd blame them too. Something with cursed chips-- that has to be the only way I won that game of poker back in the hotel room. >:3
I attribute your win to being coherent enough to know what on earth was going on at the time, unlike others in our party...
Alls I did was make the numbers match... I don't even know how to play poker. >_
Congratulations Kat!
Wow! SEO/Journalist. What a winning combination of marketable skills. I’m sure you won’t have any problem getting your articles found in the search engines for relevant queries.
Best of luck!
Aloha, Dave.
Haha... lucky for me, most news sites do pretty well on their own so I won't have to put in any extra work. A google query for my name pops up my articles with the Seattle Weekly pretty fast. Although SEOmoz ranks over my own blog...
OK, so this means I'll have to change my home page to be something other than Kat's SEOMoz profile page? NOT COOL~! :)
Best of luck to you Kat~!
Hey, I'm sure you can find other ways to stalk me. The Internets are a big place! :)
Good Luck Kat!
Congrats Rebecca now you have the Sexiest Men in SEO all to yourself.
It was a real pleasure getting to meet the SEOMoz team in San Jose last week. Kat, I expect tremendous things from you in the future. Good luck, and may the road rise with you.
Thanks Bill-- for all the help with SEOmoz projects and for sharing a love of citrus.
Surprising news. Love the picture of Kat and Bill. I should get me one of them...
Best wishes to you Kat. You're extremely talented. As are the rest of the SEOMoz team (and I'm not just saying that either.)
What?!?! Wow! Good for you, Kat... Too bad for SEOmoz.
Journalism is cool, I guess... LOL. Jus kiddin... I look forward to seeing your work.
Good luck to you, too, Rebecca!
Thanks. :) Drop me a line sometime if you're in town. We should hang out.
That's a tough loss, sorry to hear the news. I just recently met Kat for the first time in San Jose and could tell she was a valuable member to the team.
On the other hand congrats to Kat, I'm sure this is a big step in the right direction for her.
Howdy Cameron... sorry for the case of unremembered identity after your presentation. I get so lost in a sea of faces sometimes. Anyhow, you did awesome and I'm sure you'll be speaking much more, though I won't be there to see it. :-)
That's a shame. (edited - sorry!)
What the hell?! The rest of us are uggos, then?
Rebecca... note he said GUYS. So that means you and Gillian aren't included :P.
Seriously, though... all the best to you, Kat!
HA. No, sorry Rebecca. I actually missed that you were coming on. :p I just meant that Kat's a big loss for SEOMoz. Will have to research but I'm sure you'll fill her shoes just fine. :p
Good luck Kat!
One down...
Rand, I might be available. I'd need sufficient space for my poster and calendar collection, but other than that I don't take up much space.
"One down", hahaha! Harsh.
Hey, you can't count me as competition! I got a man!
I don't know how the SEOmozzers feel about wall decorations, but action figures are OK, so if you crank out a few Danny Sullivan and Rand Fishkin dollies (you know, to make them fight and stuff) that should be kosher.
I believe that "action figures" sounds manlier, Kat :)
Congratulations to Kat! Congratuations to Rebecca too, I guess, since job security is assured in her future. And good luck to Rand finding talented SEO specialists in the Seattle area. Drop me a line when you're ready to hire, I might know of some folks that could be interested.
Yes, Becca likey the job security.
Congrats on your new gig Kat. I'm sure it's a tough loss for the team, but you've done some pretty cool stuff at SEOMoz. Enjoy your new job, and be sure to keep us all posted on where ya end up.
Sorry to see ya go Kat. If you're ever in NY feel free to stop by again. Best of luck to your future - I'm sure you'll do great in journalism.
Thanks, Jim! See you around, I'm sure. :)
