Happy New Year, folks. I'm taking the weekend off (due partially to illness and partially because I think it's time for a break). Of note, though is a thread at cre8 from sixcrookedhighways reminding us all to update our copyright notices. I need to get on that...
And... on another subject completely, there's a controversial and worthwhile thread on the value of Mr. Cutt's blog and his advice. Enjoy!
Thanks for a great 2005 - I'm very excited about the next 12 months.
I hope that you are feeling better soon, Rand.
I'll be tackling some of those copyright notices in the morning.
Update copyright notices? I run 50 sites (mostly for clients) and just get the server to execute .html pages as php and use :
Copyright© 1999 - (php) echo date("Y"); (php)
May save you a bit of time each year. Also this does not actually matter as the point of the date is to tell people when copyright started, they can then add the copyright term onto the date and work out when it stopped being copyrighted. The reason people use the date range is so that its obvious some of the work is newer - and therefore even is bits are out of copyright it does not give people permission to copy everything. IT DOES NOT say that copyright has run out.
If you miss out a copyright completly it does not mean it is not copyrighted, its actualy (legally) worse to write an incorrect copyright strangely enough.
Make sure your notice reads in this order: ©copyright + date range + copyright owner
Yep, it's also prime time to request .edu backlinks. New semester starting and school websites are being updated.
funny thing...i spent all morning updating copyright notices on all my sites. i'm amazed i remembered...without even reading this post or that thread. hey, maybe my memory isn't completely fried. get well, rand.
