I'm pleased and excited to inform you all that Rand is sending me to England for 18 days to participate in Ammon Johns'
SEO Intern Training Program. I'll be leaving October 31st and will arrive in London on November 1st. After five days of sightseeing (including celebrating
Bonfire Night on November 5th), I'll hop on a train to Worthing, where my training montage (mon-tage!) with Ammon will begin. According to the training's description on Fresh Egg, I'll be learning:
- Search psychology
- Site analysis
- Effective meta data
- Copy and content
- Link strategy
- SEM business and account management
- Project immersion
Expect blogging from England and an article detailing my experience with Ammon. I'll also most likely take a train over to Chitterne during the weekend and say howdy to our
favorite SEO guru.
Alas, since I'll be busy snatching marbles out of Ammon's outstretched hand and tracking search engine spiders while blindfolded and balancing buckets of water on my shoulders, I'll be missing PubCon in Vegas. If you're at PubCon, please buy a beer for Rand (you'll get
5 points!), Jeff, or Jane in my absence :)
Funny, I will be in the UK around that time as well. Going to Berlin, Dublin and London starting the 29th of October.
Looks like all the cool people are flocking to the UK.
Congrats Rebecca. I might also get the privlidge of participating in this training program (actually, the details of your experience will help influence whether or not I get to go). I was curious how long you will be training for?
Two weeks. I start November 6th and go until November 17th.
That's great Rebecca! I live in London, I would love to meet up with you for a drink! I'll show you the "real" London =)
Lisa
Looking forward to your arrival, Rebecca. Expect blogging from England and an article detailing my experience with Ammon Leave a little mystery though, you know it will drive SEOfangirl wild to not get all the gossip. You have to keep a little air of mystery. ;)
Worthing isn't as sleepy as it used to be, I assure you. Although Brighton is just so cool and vibrant that it would be unfair to compare it to anything - even London.
Though with you being a movie buff, well there's some great specialized cinemas in London you might want to catch I think. Otherwise just pop round early and check out my DVD collection. I always love to share movies with a fellow fan.
Excellent! I'd love to peruse the collection of DVDs. And could you define "specialized" movie theaters? Are we talking "red light district specialized" here?
Finally, I thought I'd shamefully add that I'll almost certainly be wasting a couple hours of precious London sightseeing to see the Borat movie :D
Specialized movie theatres: Chinatown has some great cinemas that specialize entirely in Asian cinema that never makes the main theatres.
There are specialist movie theatres for Chinese (Hong Kong), Japanese, and Indian, cinema in London.
Then there's the one just off of Leicester Square that shows a lot of art films and foriegn language films. Some really good stuff gets shown there. Or how about the cinemas that just show movies that no longer run in the mainstream chains, including all-time classics?
There's literally a whole world of choice - choices representing a wide sample of world-cinema.
But you really should try to catch some real theatre too. London's West End is rather like Broadway, with so many shows on that you'd never see them all in a month, and never forget the select ones you caught in a lifetime usually. :)
I feel hurt! The French, with their frog's legs, get your vote over us hunky, kilt clad renegades from Scotland!
I know when i'm not wanted. Sniff....
Haha, don't feel bad. I don't even know if I'll be able to go to Paris for a day. Do you even think I could feasibly make a day trip to Scotland?
Of course it's feasible. Many people do it on a daily basis for work. The plane journey is only 1 hour. Sure, it's a long day - you'd be up early and back late but i'm sure the buzz would keep you going.
To be fair, one day isn't anywhere near enough to do it justice, but it would certainly give you a taster.
Shoot me over an email (or vice versa) and we can chat about it :)
i been there for a job interview and they told me about you and then they offer me same training but unfortunately i cann't afford
Congrats Rebecca...
I am headed over to work with Ammon as well. We will over lap a few days in Worthing. I will arrive on the 17th of Nov. and will be there until the 18th of Dec. So it looks like I be seeing you in England.
Yep, I'll see you for one day before I leave November 18th. Rand wasn't willing to give me up for a month, so I'm training for two weeks.
Rebecca, don't listen to Andy! While i've got nothing against Brighton, what you really want to do is hop on a plane (any of the budget airlines such as EasyJet, RyanAir or BmiBaby) to Glasgow and see some spectacular scenery. I'll happily be your guide around historic Scotland. I could even arrange free accommodation if you were interested.
Haha! I'd love to visit Scotland, but it might have to wait for another trip.
Do you really want to wake up to the sound of bagpipes in the morning? Okay, so I'm not sure if they really wake you up with bagpipes. But if you do any country hopping, you want to take a day trip to Paris.
If you do, email me and I'll buy you a crepe
I was actually thinking of taking the train to Paris one day, but I haven't made up my mind yet. Mind if I email you?
Eurostar is great, just make sure you buy your ticket in the US so you don't get the sticker shock that comes form buying a ticket in pounds. Feel free to email me at seofangirl(at)yahoo
proper bacon!! that's about the only thing I don't understand about the US (we'll be there, while you're here)you have such skinny pigs which, apparently only produce very thin rashers of bacon - weird!
Have a great time. Travel Safe!
Can't wait to read about your experience when you get back. It should be a good one.
Ack! Please tell me you're voting by absentee ballot as you'll miss election day (remember, remember the SEVENTH of November this year).
Have fun Grasshopper!
Raaaaaaaa! Jealous. It's too bad I'm all *foreign* and have to wait for the government to approve my travel rights! Rebecca, I expect you to drink a lot of tea and think of me in Las Vegas... wait, I've just realised that I have absolutely nothing to complain about... :D
I'll try to watch a soap or two, just for you ;)
Ah yes, Guy Fawkes Day (Fawks? I forget). Fireworks in late Fall... something we should start here... great time to watch fireworks and enjoy a bonfire!
Vegas... no offence, but I'd certainly take London or anything UK over LV anyday, night, or otherwise.... but I think I must have been born English in another life ;)
cheers love
No complaints here, I just know that I'll be missing one hell of a party in Vegas. I've never been to England, though, so I'm looking forward to the trip.
A few pints of some incredible beers, maybe some ciders, a little pub crawl, wonderful time of the year, beautiful countryside, high tea and biscuits, incredible pub grub, donnor kabobs, fish-n-chips at 10pm... oops, 22:00.... see if you can find "flapjacks"... not even sure if that is correct, but nothing like you think about flapjacks (pancakes) in the States... kind of granola bar kind of thing with a layer of chocolate on top.... about 50p and can keep fight off hunger for hours!
Vegas is 30 seconds of pleasure, but London and is an experience. Probably no time, but if you can, make a trip up to Nottingham... you know, Robin Hood territory... and hit a great pub, Ye Olde Trip to Jerrusalem.
Otherwise, lots of great pubs in London (check out the Dive bar) and catch some theatre while there... heck, just pack me in your suitcase and I'll show you around :)
Have fun! Oh yeah, and learn lots and come back and share with the class!
Sounds like fun. Too bad you'll miss Pubcon, though. I look forward to hearing about your experience in London.
There used to be a cool night club at the end of the Worthing Pier - Friday nights were ladies nights. Apart from that, Worthing is pretty sleepy. Grab the train to Brighton (my hometown), and you'll find great restaurants, shopping and nightlife.
Feel free to email me if you need any other tips, have fun!
I want to be Rebecca when I grow up. So many opportunities to so many search studs. I'm sure the article is going to be good, but please use your powers for awesome and remember to get lots of pictures.
I'll try not to disappoint!
Wow, very nice. I don't care who you are or how much experience you have, this is a great opportunity. All of us have our own methods we use to do what we do. Getting the chance to do in depth training with another firm that more than likely has different ways to accomplish the same goals can only bring about good things.
Now if you can write a 2,000 page SEOmoz hiring article, I can just imagine how good of an article this could make for :D
Yeah, it will be really interesting to train with another company. I'm looking forward to gaining more experience.
As for the article, well, the boss man wouldn't expect anything less than stellar from his lackey :)
