Someone e-mailed me to say that the Beginner's Guide was ranking on page 3 for "SEO" at Google - just behind Matt's blog. I took a peek and sure enough, there it was:
The problem is, that descriptive text isn't anywhere on the page or in the meta description... Oh, I thought - DMOZ must have added it and Google's using that description. But, upon searching DMOZ, I couldn't find it listed anywhere. They have a listing for SEOmoz, but it points to an old article. Now I'm going crazy. So, I searched Google for the exact text... guess what? Doesn't exist anywhere.
Who wrote that description? Where did it come from? Why is it on the SERPs? Has anyone ever seen something like this before?
Could it be that someone at Google manually wrote the description?
UPDATE: Rand's insane... Totally insane... It's right there in the meta description. I should delete this post, but I'm going to leave it up as a reminder to myself and others to investigate carefully before getting excited and making up **** news.

This post must be a classic! I'm laughing my head off. Who said there's no value to reading old posts! lol
It was first put online and linked to on Nov. 5 - last Monday.
Rand, how old is that exact url: seomoz.org/beginners.php ?
You rock, but when the men in white are coming to take you away then well...
LOL. Good to see you be a goober every now and then. :)
dang, I was getting really excited for a minute there. but who hasn't done something that stupid before?
(like 5 minutes ago when I called our programmer about our site not accepting credit cards...then found out that two customers in a row both got their expiration dates wrong...)
Psssst! Rand? I think you can sleep more than 15 minutes a day now :) Something tells me you deserve it.
It's gotta be somewhere. :P. Good for a laugh anyway.
