Dr. Garcia (orion of SEW) has posted another fantastic article covering the formulaic implementation of term weight. For many SEOs, this will be tough reading, and I admit to having trouble following all of the math and formulas myself.
However, the conclusion of the paper is that term weight, a long-sought-after measurement that the search engines use to determine a specific term's (or phrase's) importance on a given page, can finally be calculated using MySQL.
The calculations themselves are not simple, but nor are they overly complex. Dr. Garcia has, in fact, laid out the computational elements rather simply for those who are familiar with the terminology and variables. In the near future, I hope to utilize his work to create a tool capable of automatically measuring and comparing the term weight of given terms in documents. I suspect that this will be of great use to many who are unhappy that keyword density is just a myth.
I'm constantly reminded of Einstein's quote - "If I have seen farther than others, it is because I stood on the shoulders of Giants." To me, Dr. Garcia is one of those giants, and I'm privileged to stand on his shoulders (and even get an extra boost up on occassion).
