5 Things You Didn't Know About Rebecca:
- In high school I was voted "Most Likely to Take Over the World." I'll now amend that to be "Most Likely to Take Over the SEO World." Mwuahahahaha!!!
- Between me and my boyfriend, we own over 800 DVDs. Needless to say, we love movies. It's like I live in a Netflix warehouse.
- My favorite book is Catch-22.
- One time I got stuck in my apartment's elevator for over an hour. Thankfully, I was neither going into labor or having to pee.
- Aaaaaaand, because you're all such a great audience, I'll share the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me: In middle school I inadvertantly (yes, believe it or not, it was an accident) tackled my portly Choir teacher out of his chair in front of the whole class. Picture an adolescent Rebecca slumped over a squat, overweight, middle-aged man in a Cosby sweater, all in a heap on the floor. Yep, that was harsh. Once you have something like that happen to you, you don't embarrass easily.
5 Things You Didn't Know About Rand:
OK, I already share way too much, but here I go with a few more...
- I'm Jewish... well not the religious kind of Jew, but I do my best to call the grandparents on Rosh Hashanah, Passover, Yom Kippur (and if I'm a particuarly good grandson, Sukkot, too). However, I love Christmas, so Mystery Guest and I have a beautiful tree with a Star of David on top (oh so multicultural!)
- I'm a (humble) master of risotto and have been working on perfecting my own version of the dish (saffron, peas, proscuitto, toasted pine nuts) for several years.
- I never had much luck with girls until I met Mystery Guest. In fact, the grand total of people I dated before her was 3... including high school.
- I played intramural football at the Univ. of WA my senior year and was team captain. I played left guard on offense and linebacker on defense; needless to say, we didn't win a single game (but it was still a ton of fun).
- I'm an insufferable romantic; I love kids, old movies, songs from the '40's, dancing at weddings - all that jazz. Oh yeah, and I've seen pretty much every Simpsons episode ever made a minimum of 4 times.
And now that we're through with that meme... I'd like to start another blog tag game (hopefully more relevant one). Any good ideas?
Can't believe how quickly this has spread, hat tip to SoloSEO for the Blog Tree and to Rebecca for takindg my email in the spirit intended ;)
Call it a coincidence, but I started a new round of tagging just a couple of days ago as well. Because of the time of the year, I thought Christmas tagging would be nice. Share 3 things that you do and 3 things that you don't want to get for Christmas. On the other hand, this would result in a lot of 'I do want to get higher rankings' and 'I don't want to get a Google penalty' blog posts...
My idea for the new meme is The Social Network Activity Contest King (or S.N.A.C.K. king ... maybe needs a better name) BUT here's how I see it working.
You tag 5 people who tag 5 people (same as this) but the difference is that you only get credit for people from 4 levels down into your "network" meaning you have 5 * 5 * 5 * 5 = 625- the total possible score of participants in your network. this means no matter when you where tagged, you have a somewhat even playing field. You just need to find newer people outside the normal SEO scene.
Members who are tagged and decide to participate must pay credit (preferably a link since we are SEOs but this prolly shouldn't be a hard requirement since we are not building a link scheme here) to the person that they responded to (in case of multiple taggings).
The person closest to 625 after one week earns a prize. I'll pony up a few hundred bucks and a nice write up about their business or blog for the prize if you want to host it.
The reason I chose 4 levels of participation is that 1) it is nearly impossible to make 625 people jump on this and 2) it would quickly burn out the members of the SEO community and force people to flex their external social networks outside the SEO scene. SoloSEO can follow this one and keep tally if he has the time / bandwidth.
It would also make people choose more carefully who they tag. Everybody will think who of the members not yet taken will be the most active tagger. We may need to figure out a way to keep score that allows bloggers to change their choice if somebody else made the same choice for a tagging. I dunno.
Eh, it's late I need sleep. I'll find out tomorrow if that idea sucked or not.
Whoa, Jews are allowed on the internet now? This is news to me!
Not only that, but they have the Internet for computers! Can you imagine...
Rand, I'd let you have my good ideas for a linkbait post, but instead I will jump on the opportunity myself (besides, you always get the great posts!)My latest post is entitled 5 Job Skills That Helped Me Break Into SEO Please share and enjoy.
Not a bad idea :)
Instead of another round of tagging, why don't we just get old fashioned and each mail $1 to 5 people? Just send mine to Happy Dude, 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield. Speaking of which, Rand one day I'm going to have to challenge you to a Simpsons trivia showdown.
I'll join that challenge! I've been watching The Simpsons since its first season :D
I'd bet we could do a Skype based showdown pretty easily. "We could start our own game, where people throw ducks at balloons and nothing is what it seems." :)
The Jewish part about Rand never surprised me. It's also big at Barnard, my alma mater, and I know who also went there. ;) Happy Chanukah, Rand!
You watched every Simpsons episode 4 times, now thats impressive
Ah! Well, I guess it'll take me a long time to become "taggable" :-).
Rand's 5 and 3 relate closely ;)
Hey Tamar!
Oddly enough, I rarely find another Barnard grad wherever I go... where the heck are we? I take it I left Barnard a long time before you got there. What was your major? Let's take this thread off-blog - email me.
I thought the tagging linkbait was equally as amusing as the "Mosser" cartoon.
Don't be so insecure guys, gheesh!
rand, the key to great risotto is to make your own broth from scratch. i always make a super yummy vegtable broth for my risotto. and also start it out with a cup or so of a good white wine before adding the broth. (sorry, risotto is kinda my thing as well.)
I vow this is the last blog chain-mail I will be sucked into :)
You forgot to tag new people! Since there are two of you, you should tag about 10:)
No. It needed to end. :)
Rand, you don't get to decide whether it ends, you are ordered by the blog-tag high council to keep the silliness going! ;-)
How about just...
5 things
Just random things.
Weird, but open to creative expression.
If you get enough, I bet you $50 that they'll be selling the 5 things keyword at 10 cents a pop within a week.
Happy Channukah here in a few hours then. I'll also be celebrating Christmas and Channukah this weekend (not at the same time).
evolvor: good idea!
I think "5 Jobs You Had Before SEO" would be good. Or "5 Things That Got You Involved in SEO/Internet Marketing". It would be interesting to see any common jobs or paths that led us into the industry.
But realistically, there will be wide array just given the overall newness of SEO, so rather than look to the past, look to the future...
5 Ways SEO will change marketing forever?
Yes, you need to tag 5 folks (or 10) and they can't have already been tagged before :)
Rand, you should go on Hell's Kitchen!
As long as you can make, "BLOODY RISOTTO!!" you're guaranteed to win.
I read this blog just as much for the "noise" as the "signals" ... but I think both of evolvor's suggestions would be great.
The Blog Tag Tree
I thought it would be fun to "track" the blog tag, so I started The Blog Tag Tree. It is a work in progress, as is the game. I think it hit the SEO realm starting with GrayWolf, but his lineage goes up to David Gale who I believe was NOT tagged at all but initiated his own line.
UPDATE: It looks like Avinash Kaushik tagged several SEOs to start this into the SEO blogosphere. Go down to the bottom of the blog tag tree and see the SEOs there.
Great idea man. I must admit I was first annoyed with this thing (I know, me of all people annoyed with a linking stunt) but after pondering it (and getting tagged by a gorilla) I jumped in full force.
How are you going to keep this updated?
As its Friday Rand...
Bring your risotto to the table and place an open bottle of good quality champagne (at room temperature) in the center. The warmth of the dish makes the champagne froth out of the bottle and blend with the risotto. Works best with shell fish risotto made with Vialone Nano rice cooked 'al dente'. If you and your partner have the right background music and candlelight my experience is that you will not need a dessert.
That sounds pretty fantastic, duz - and impressive, too. I might have to give it a try in the next few weeks. Thanks!
Someone told me once that Risotto was rice trying to be mashed potatoes, and failing miserably. I think she's completly wrong. Anytime you want to bring Risotto into the office Rand, I won't stop you.
...on that description alone, I'm not sure you even need the risotto ;)
No tagging? Booo...spoil sport!!! :-P
You can us if you want. :-)
Can i take part in a game of blog tag? I dont quite understand how i can get involved if you have to be tagged before you can join....Looks like a fun thing to try!
You wanted to play and I was looking for people to tag. Consider yourself tagged.
